take over the lead and went on for his third win in a row and
fourth in five races. White finished second with Brokaw third,

second.
On the eighth lap Cook was able to slip under Neff to take over second
place while Lobdell and Courcey raced for fourth. After a caution
on lap ten, Lobdell drove under Courcy to take over fourth
place. After another caution on lap 16 put Cook on
Fleming’s back bumper for the restart, the two leaders opened up a
slight advantage over Neff. With Cook using the low side of the
speedway and Fleming using the high side, Cook tried to get a run on
the leader. While the two leaders were racing at the front,

cleared an eight car length advantage by lap 7.
As Brokaw pulled away, the next three runners also opened five car

he won the 25 lap Modified feature at Skyline Raceway in Cortland NY.
Starting sixth on grid, Jordan was in second place at the end of the
first lap and inherited the lead when pole sitter and early race leader
Mark Reynolds slowed on the backstretch and pitted on lap 2. In
the early going Jordan was pressured by John Morse until third
running Jim Rothwell began challenging Morse for second. While the
leaders were racing on the inside groove, 12th starting Chris Stull took
to the outside lane and began rim riding his way to the front. By
lap nine, Stull had moved into second place. On lap 9 Tom Collins had
moved into fourth place and four laps later, when Stull went too high,
the eighth starting Collins moved into second place. Stull refused to
give up the high side while Jordan and Collins continued to fight for
the short way around the speedway. At one point Collins was able
to pull along side Jordan but was unable to make the pass for the win.
At the line it was Kevin Jordan picking up the win with Collins
second, Stull third, Rothwell fourth and Morse fifth.
In the 20 lap IMCA Modified feature, Lyle Smith swapped the lead with
J.J. Courcy over the the final eight laps of the race before crossing
the line with the win. Pete Neff took the lead at the drop of the

waging a nearly identical battle for third and fourth.
On lap 7 Lobdell was able to slip past Cook for third and one lap later
Smith passed Fleming for the lead. During the earlier laps,
Fleming and Smith had opened a half straight away lead over Cook and
Lobdell. When Lobdell moved into third he began to reel in the
leaders. With three laps to go he caught Fleming and moved into
second place, but didn’t have enough time to catch Smith. At the

lucrative, not only did he pick of the $1000 Hunt’s Auto Service
Feature win he also captured the tie breaker in the $500 bonus for
the best overall finish in the two race Thunder Mountain Speedway
vs. Skyline Raceway Modified Challenge. At the conclusion of the
35 lap Modified feature the points were tabulated resulting in a four
way tie for the championship. Stull, Jim Larock, Brian White and
Kenny Hammond finished in a dead heat according to the point system
implemented for the event. The tie breaking system agreed upon was
a blind draw with the lowest number getting the $500, with Stull coming
up the winner.
Jerry Lobdell won an exciting battle with Chris Fleming for the IMCA
Modified win, while the final event of the evening proved to be a
classic battle between Bill Rampe and Kevin Boynton with Boynton

winner in the Junkyard Pup feature, with Larry Rowley taking the win in
the Junkyard Dogs. Eric Rowley won the ten lap Young Pup

opened up a full straightaway advantage over fourth running Brian White.
As the extended green flag period went on, Stull began gaining ground on
Planck before taking over the top spot at the halfway point of the race.
The first caution of the event waved on lap 24 when a radiator hose came
off the Jim Rothwell ride bathing the car in white smoke. Rothwell
stopped on pit road bringing out the caution. With 11 laps
remaining, Stull was the leader, Planck was in second , Henry third,
Kevin Jordan fourth and Brian White fifth.

under Pete Neff coming off turn two to take over second place on lap 6.
Five laps later, in the same spot on the speedway, Lobdell again made a
pass, this time for the lead. Lobdell appeared to have the race in
hand until two laps to go when Fleming made a move on the inside, there
was contact causing both cars to slow momentarily, Fleming had a slight
advantage briefly, but Lobdell regained the lead and went on to the win.
Fleming finished second, Neff crossed the line third with Lyle Smith
fourth and Mike Wilbur Sr., fifth.
Nick Nye and Jake Fowlston brought the field to starter Jeff Witt’s
green flag for the 20 lap Street Stock feature. Third starting

for second place as Kevin Boynton and Bill Rampe ran door to door
as the laps ticked off. On lap 8, Ingraham’s lead started to
shrink and on lap 11 Rampe took the lead as Ingraham stopped on the
speedway with a flat right rear tire bringing out the caution.
After a caution on lap 16, Boynton and Rampe resumed their battle,
running side by side as the race wound down. Rampe would have the
advantage coming off turn two, but slowly Boynton was gaining ground
coming off turn four. With the checkered flag waving, Boynton used the
high side to his advantage taking the win by less than half a car length
over Rampe. Gene Sharpsteen finished third, Daryl Krebs finished
fourth and Scott Smith finished fifth.
Larry Rowley grabbed the lead from his outside front row starting
position and went on to take the win in the 15 lap Junkyard Dog feature.
Third starting Todd Koegel slipped back to fourth at the start, but
quickly moved to the outside groove and slipped into second place
by lap 5. Koegel was unable to reel in the leader and had to
settle for second place. Matt Oland finished third, with Ed White
fourth and Kati Smith fifth.

took over the top spot on the second lap. A turn four bobble cost
Rothwell the lead on lap 4 putting Jim Larock in the top spot. A

picked up feature wins at Skyline Raceway on Saturday night, while
Matt Tripp did them all one better by sweeping both ends of the Twin
15’s for the Junkyard Pups.
Pole sitter Steve Planck took the early lead in the 25 lap Sportsmen
Modified main event. While Planck opened up a 4 car length lead,

later the first caution of the event came out when Jim
“Rocky” Rothwell was stopped facing the wrong way in turn two.
As he was between turns three and four and about to get the two laps

spinning. Luckily there was no contact and the other front
runners were able to avoid the disabled car. During the caution

caution on lap nine bunched the field together, but Courcy continued
to dominate the race. Contact between Smith and Lobdell on lap
13 put the two at the back of the lineup for the ensuing restart.

the early portions of the race, taking to the high side for the
remaining laps. At the finish, J.J. Courcy took the win, Kevan

rains washed out the program.

Clark settling into second. Eighth starting Chris Stull quickly
worked his way into the top five, before passing Randy Shantel on lap 7

the top five. With a steady mist falling, Stull and Morse
continued in their race to the front. On the 11th circuit,
Stull passed Clark to take over second place, with Morse moving past
Clark a lap later. The rain got heavier as the leaders worked
through lapped traffic until the yellow was waved because of the
deteriorating track conditions. After a short delay the

past the halfway point Steve Planck was the winner with Chris Stull
second, John Morse third, Dan Clark fourth and Randy Shantel fifth.
The Pure Stock feature saw Jon Carpenter take the early lead from his
pole starting position. Fourth starting Daryl Krebs slipped into
second with Clayton Ingraham holding on to third. The leaders ran

Wilbur for third place on lap 8. Cook’s lead slowly dwindled until

and he took his first feature win of the year. Wilbur finished third,
with Pete Neff fourth and Johnny Bell fifth.
In the 20 Lap Pure Stock feature, Jon
Carpenter and Jake Fowlston led the field to the green flag. Nick Nye

up from his sixth starting spot, last week’s feature winner Scott

Jim Larock won the Sportsmen-Modified Feature event on Saturday night at
Skyline Raceway in Cortland NY. After failing to make the call for the
feature on opening night, Larock was handicapped to the pole position
for the start of the main event and jumped into the lead at the drop of
head starter Jeff Witt’s green flag. His front row starting companion,
Randy Brokaw, slid into second place for the first seven laps until Jim
“Rocky” Rothwell moved into the spot on lap eight. With Larock
solidly in the lead,Rothwell in second and Brokaw in third, Ben Bushaw
and Kevin Jordan began to battle for fourth place after passing the
fading Dan Clark on lap 8. Jordan moved into fourth place on lap 11
before passing Brokaw for third on lap 13. Bushaw was also able to pass
Brokaw for fourth before Brokaw headed pit side on the next lap. As the
race wore on Bushaw’s choice of hard tires started to pay off as he
drove past Jordan on lap 17 but ran out of laps before he could reel in
the leaders. Jim Larock crossed the line first, with Jim “Rocky”
Rothwell second, Bushaw third, Jordan fourth and Steve Planck fifth.
The 20 lap IMCA Modified feature
appeared to be a repeat from the 2009 season with the front row of Chris
Fleming and Kevan Cook taking command of the race from the start.
Opening night feature winner Jerry Lobdell settled into third place
using his backup car after problems with his main ride on Friday night.
Cook and Fleming ran one-two for seventeen laps with Lobdell on their
back bumpers looking for an opening. With Fleming running the high side
and Cook favoring the low side Fleming got his chance in turn two when
Cook got too low and bobbled for a moment, allowing both Fleming and
Lobdell to get by. At the checkers it was Fleming taking the win,
Lobdell second, Cook third, Sonny Terry fourth and Duane Bird fifth.
Rich Green took the lead at the start
of the 20 lap Pure Stock main event. Nick Nye held on to second until
fourth starting Scott Smith moved in to the second spot on lap six. Two

pulled into the infield on lap six. Degraw would cruise to the win with
Scutt coming home second, Mark Moon finished third, Steven Denton
crossed the line fourth and Jeff Monroe completed the top five.
In the Junkyard Dog 15 lap main event

starting spot, taking the lead on the first lap. Scott Brown stayed with
the defending track champion, challenging him throughout the early
portion of the race. On lap 8 Brown and pole sitter Matt Oland got past
Koegel after some heavy racing action. Brown’s lead was short lived as
two laps later, Koegel retook the lead and held on for the win. Brown
finished second with 12th starting Larry Rowley putting on a charge to
finish third. Matt Oland and Robbie Compton rounded out the top five.

April 17th 2010
The 2010 racing season kicked off on Saturday night at Skyline Raceway
in Cortland NY on a chilly evening. Kevin Jordan, Gene Sharpsteen, Jerry
Lobdell, Todd Koegel, Grayson Albanese, Kyle Hackett and Cody Herzog
picked up opening night victories.
Gene Sharpsteen took advantage of Clayton Ingraham’s misfortune to
take the win in the Pure Stock feature. Rich Green and Ingraham brought
the field to Starter Jeff Witt’s green flag and Ingraham went to the
lead with Sharpsteen moving into the second spot from third starting
position with Green holding on to third. On lap 3 Rampe slipped by Green
for third and started challenging Sharpsteen for second. A caution on
lap 13 resulted in Ingraham heading pit side giving the lead to
Sharpsteen. Ingraham rejoined the race without losing a lap and quickly
came through the pack, moving into third place by lap 15. One lap later
he had driven by Rampe and began to reel in the leader, but ran out of
laps as Gene Sharpsteen took the win with Ingraham a strong second,
Rampe third, Daryl Krebs fourth and Scott Smith fifth.
Jerry Lobdell took the opening night
checkered flag in the IMCA Modified division in a dominating
performance. Lobdell took the lead from pole sitter Mike Smith and
quickly opened a big lead. The lead evaporated after a red flag for a
fire in Matt Robert’s ride and on the restart, Smith grabbed the lead.
Smith was able to hold off Lobdell until lap 14 when the driver of the
2L drove by for the winning pass. The race got interesting on the last
lap when Lobdell drifted high in turn four giving Smith a chance to make
a run, but the 96 car came up short at the line. Kevan Cook finished
third, with Chris Fleming fourth and Gary Roberts fifth.
Kevin Jordan and Steve Planck brought
the Sportsman Modified field to the green flag with Jordan taking the
early lead, Ben Bushaw held third and Rocky Rothwell settled into
fourth. Rothwell passed Bushaw on lap 4 and Planck one lap later to move
into second spot. That’s how they ran until Planck and Rothwell
tangled in turn two sending both drivers to the rear and putting Bushaw
into second and John Morse third. At the line it was Kevin Jordan in a
flag to flag run picking up the win, Bushaw held on for second with John
Morse third. Rocky Rothwell recouped from the earlier tangle to finish
fourth with Dan Clark finishing fifth.
Matt Oland took the early lead in the
Junkyard Dogs main event. Oland was holding off the charges of defending
track champion Todd Koegel until his ride coasted to a stop in turn two
on the 8th lap of the race. Koegel cruised to the win with Larry Rowley
finishing second, Ed White third, Robbie Compton fourth and Buck Mills
Jr. fifth.
Grayson Albanese held off Nick Griest’s
early race challenges to win the Junk Yard Pup feature event. Griest
finished second with George Brown third, Steve Sinn fourth and Dan Wood
fifth.
Kyle Hackett out-dueled Mark Moon and
Jett Bronson for the win in the 4 Cylinder Super Stock feature. And Cody
Herzog was declared the winner in the inaugural Young Pups feature event
after some contact during the race.
