BUTCH GREEN EXTENDS POINT LEAD WITH SKYLINE VICTORY _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 6/8/13 NICK NYE BESTS TEAMMATE FOR SKYLINE VICTORY -JJ Courcy returns to IMCA Modified victory lane Nick Nye drove to his second feature win of 2013 last Saturday night at the Skyline Raceway, narrowly nosing out his Adhan Piping teammate Alan Barker to earn his second win of 2013. JJ Courcy rebounded from a serious crash a week ago to earn his fifth IMCA Modified feature win with Rich Green scoring he second of 2103 in the Street Stocks. Buck Mills continued his domination of the Junkyard Dogs class with his sixth win of the season with Keith {Potter winning his second Junkyard Pups feature of 2013. Sportsman division rookies Colton Wilson and Chris Fleming brought the field down to the green flag with Wilson jumping out to the early lead as eventual winner Nye made a quick move to second from his third starting position. Wilson, a promising rookie driver in the Sportsman ranks led the first six laps before giving way to Nye, who took the lead with a nice move to the inside of Wilson. Behind Nye, the man of the move was his teammate, Alan Barker, who had driven from the fifth starting position to third behind Nye and Wilson. That would be the running order among the top three as the race passed the halfway point. Wilson’s strong drive would end two laps past the halfway point as he retired to the pit area, leaving Nye and Barker in the top two positions with Ryan Jordan and Jim Rothwell just behind as the top four driver raced in close formation. Barker was able to get a couple of looks to the inside of Nye, but could never find a clear path to make the pass as Nye ran a flawless race at the head of the field to score the win. Barker crossed the line just behind to complete a sweep of the top two finishing positions. Rothwell worked past Jordan for third as Jordan dropped off the pace over the final laps, allowing previous week’s winner Rich Townsend to finish fourth with rookie Eric Leet finishing fifth. Jordan hung on to finish sixth after racing in the top five most of the way. Just one week ago, JJ Courcy did not complete a lap in the IMCA Modified feature as he was involved in a hard backstretch crash that did serious damage to the Camp Courcy #4. A long week of work by JJ’s Brian VanTassel led crew made it possible for Courcy to return to action without missing a week and keep his championship hopes alive. The long week paid off as Courcy drove to victory in Saturday night’s 20 lap IMCA Modified feature. Courcy started seventh but wasted little time in getting to the front of the field as by the second lap, JJ was already setting the pace. Though he would lead the rest of the way, Courcy had to earn the win as he had to hold off a determined challenge by defending champion Kevan Cook over the closing laps. Bumps Scutt finished third with Chris Fleming fourth. Phil Yaw finished fifth in his first Skyline start of the season. The Street Stock feature came down to a battle of the two most recent track champions in the division as 2011 champion Rich Green outdueled 2012 titlist Brenton Miller to take the win. Green made the winning pass on the 12th circuit as he drove past Miller to take the lead. Miller pressured Green the rest of the way but was not able to find a way back past Green, who drove on to victory aboard his Boynton Motorsports #3L. Miller finished second ahead of a fast closing Earl Zimmer. Jake Fowlston finished fourth with Darryl Krebs completing the top five finishing order. Buck Mills Jr. continued to dominate the Junkyard Dogs division as he raced to his sixth victory of 2013 by a considerable margin over Tyrone Scott, who scored his best result of 2013 with a runner-up effort. .Bill Flask drove from the rear of the pack to finish third ahead of Bill Leonard and John Miller. Keith Potter won his second Junkyard Pups feature event of 2013 as he outraced current point leader Isaiah Forward for the win. Forward finished second ahead of fellow Young Pups graduate Trevor Dudley. Brett Stevens finished fourth with Carl Chafee earning his first top five finish of 2013 . Next Saturday night features a big five division show with all of Skyline’s regular divisions in action. The Sportsman, IMCA Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Junkyard Dogs, and Junkyard Pups will all be in action. Also on the schedule is the always popular Appliance Race for the Junkyard Pups. ________________________________________________________________________________________ RICK TOWNSEND SCORES FIRST CAREER SKYLINE VICTORY -Kevan Cook takes win #3 in IMCA Modified action. Last Saturday night at the Skyline Raceway saw a new face in victory lane as Rick Townsend drove to victory in the 25 lap Sportsman feature at the Skyline Raceway. In IMCA Modified action, it was defending track champion Kevan Cook using some last lap heroics to pick up his third feature win of 2013. Earl Zimmer drove to his fifth win of the season in Pure Stock action with Buck Mills Jr. matching that number in the Junkyard Dogs feature. Bobby Wagner picked up the Junkyard Pups win, his second victory lane visit in 2013. The 25 laps Sportsman feature came to the green flag paced by Rick Townsend and “Rapid” Roy Shields. AS the green flag waved, Townsend took his Hooterville Bar and Grill sponsored #51 to the lead trailed by Chris Jordan and Tom Collins Jr. Through the early stages of the event, Townsend was able to open up a bit of a lead as the former IMCA Modified and Crate Sportsman racer was strong in only his sixth Open Sportsman start. AS Townsend continued to lead, the battle behind him was heating up as Jordan and Collins were locked in a battle for second. As the race moved past the halfway point, Townsend was still out front as the battle for second continued. Over the second half of the event, Townsend was still leading, but the man on the move was Jim LaRock. Jim fought his way forward from the seventh starting position, but with few caution flags to bunch the field up, LaRock was having to work hard for every spot. He finally moved into the top three on the 20th circuit as he was able to slip past Collins. With only two laps remaining, LaRock was able to advance to the runner-up position as he slipped past Chris Jordan. Jim was able to cut into Townsend’s lead over the final two laps, but was not able to catch Townsend as Rick drove under the checkered flag to score his first Skyline Sportsman victory over former track champion LaRock. Chris Jordan drove to a third place finish with Butch Green grabbing fourth on the final circuit. Tom Collins Jr. finished fifth. The 20 lap IMCA Modified feature did not get off to a good start as a first lap crash on the backstretch saw Robbie Compton nearly flipping as he and JJ Courcy made heavy contact on the backstretch, ending the evening for both. On the restart, IIMCA Modified rookie Matt Jones grabbed the lead and was able to open up a bit of an advantage over the field. For most of the event, the battle was for second as Kevan Cook and Chris Fleming battled for the runner-up position. Late in the event, Cook was able to move away from Fleming and set his sights on Jones, who had built up a bit of a lead. Cook was able to run down Jones, and was sitting right on Jones’ rear deck lid as the white flag waved. Cook made his move on the final lap, dropping to the inside of Jones to take over the lead on the final lap. Cook drove on to victory trailed closely by Jones, who scored a career best runner-up finish. Chris Fleming finished third with Mike Smith and Bumps Scutt completing the top five. Earl Zimmer became a five time winner on Saturday night as “The Logger” charged to victory. Zimmer took over the race lead on the 8th circuit as he drove around early race leader Brenton Miller. Zimmer led the rest of the way to score the victory over Sportsman regular the defending track champion. Jake Fowlston finished third ahead of Jason Rhodes and Darryl Krebs. Buck Mills Jr. drove to his fifth win of the season in the 15 lap Junkyard Dogs feature. Mills passed early race leader Jon Miller on the third lap and led the rest of the way to score the win. Mechanical issues would send Miller to the pits shortly thereafter. Bill Leonard drove to a second place finish with Kerri Barber finishing a season best third. Bill Flask and Connor VanValkenburg completed the top five. Bobby Wagner won his second Junkyard Pups feature event of 2013 as he outran Keith Potter to score the win. Potter, who debuted a brand new car, drove to a second place finish with his new mount. Trevor Dudley, Isaiah Forward, and Robby Fiene rounded out the top five. Next Saturday night features a big five division show with all of Skyline’s regular divisions in action. The Sportsman, IMCA Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Junkyard Dogs, and Junkyard Pups will all be in action. Also on the schedule is lawnmower racing. The Empire State Series event was lengthened to 37 laps in honor of Ellis as that was the car number of his IMCA Modified. Brian White dominated the 50 lap Frank’s Truck Repair/Hunt’s Auto Service Sportsman event while Butch Green drove to victory in the Pure Stock feature. Lanson Albanese was the Junkyard Dogs winner and Isaiah Forward won the Junkyard Pups feature event. The draw for starting position put Brad Sites and Jared Spalding pon the front row for the start of the 37 lap Ryan Ellis Memorial for the IMCA Modifieds. Sites was able to get the drop on Spalding as the green flag waved to drive into the race lead with Spalding and fifth starting Gary Roberts in tow. Roberts was able to slip past Spalding two laps later and set his sights on the race leader. Roberts would move into the lead on the fifth circuit as he drove past Sites into the race lead. Roberts continued to lead the event as behind him. The man on the move was Chris Fleming. Fleming was working his way forward from his fifth starting position to move past Sites on lap 11 and set his sights on Roberts. As the race approached the halfway point, the battle was on for the lead as Fleming and Roberts locked up in a battle for the lead. After several laps of hard racing, Fleming was able to pull of what would prove to be the winning pass just prior to the halfway point of the event. Once out front, Fleming was able to open up a bit of a lead as behind him Roberts and Sites locked up in a duel for the second position. Sites would eventually prevail in that battle to move into second place as the laps wound down in the event. Sites would run out of laps before he was able to challenge for the lead as Fleming drove under the checkered flag for his second victory of 2013. Brad Sites finished second ahead of Gary Roberts. Eddie Sites finished fourth with Jared Spalding rounding out the top five finishers. Brad Sites, James Cornell, Eddie Sites, and JJ Courcy won the four IMCA Modified heat races. Mike Wilmot and Jason Tuttle won the twin consolation events. The 50 lap Frank’s Truck Repair/Hunt’s Auto Service Sportsman feature came to the green flag with Brian White and Tom Collins Jr. drawing the front row starting positions. White immediately went to the lead as Collins and Kevin Jordan spent the early stages of the event battling for the runner-up position. Jordan would get caught up in a lap six incident that would knock him from the event as White continued to lead over Collins with a new face showing up in the top three as ninth starting Alan Barker advanced to third and set his sights on Collins. Barker would work past Collins and set his sights on White, but a long green flag run saw White able to open up a considerable advantage over Barker. There would be no changes in the running order at the head of the field as the race crossed the halfway point with White continuing to lead over Barker and Collins. Over the closing laps, Barker was able to cut into White’s advantage as the leaders were racing in heavy lapped traffic. Over the final laps, White got bottled up behind the lapped traffic as Barker was able to drive right to White’ rear bumper to make the final laps exciting. White was just able to hold off Barker to score the $1,200 victory by a narrow margin over Barker, whose runner-up finish was his best run to date of the season. Collins hung on to finish third ahead of Jim LaRock and Ryan Jordan. Alan Barker, Ryan Jordan, and Brian White won the three Sportsman heat races. Sportsman division regular Butch Green drove to victory in the 25 lap pure Stock feature event, subbing for brother Rich Green aboard the Boynton Motorsports #3L. Green passed Darryl Krebs on the seventh circuit to take over the race lead. Green led the rest of the way to score the win over a fast closing Rich Karlnoski, who was able to work past Krebs to finish second. Krebs crossed the line in third ahead of invader Nate Daggert, who got fourth in his first Skyline start. “The Candyman”, Tommy Paige finished fifth, his first top five result of 2013. Lanson Albanese outdueled Buck Mills Jr. to earn his second win of the 2013 season, The win was a hard-fought victory as the two fan favorites spent the majority of the event locked in a tight battle for the win. Albanese was able to hold off Mills to score the win with Mills finishing second. Bill Leonard crossed the line in third with invader Mike Morse fourth. Connor VanValkenburg finished fifth. Isaiah Forward drove to his fourth feature win of the season in the 20 lap Junkyard Pups feature event. Isaiah battled Brett Stevens all the way to the finish before scoring the win. Stevens finished second with Saturday night winner Trevor Dudley third. Rick Sensabaugh finished fourth with Bob Witchey fifth in his first Skyline start of the season. Racing continues this Saturday night with a full five division show of Sportsman, IMCA Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Junkyard Dogs, and Junkyard Pups. Kevin Jordan earned his first win of 2013 in the 25 lap Sportsman feature while JJ Courcy earned his fourth win of the season after a thrilling battle with Chris Fleming. Earl Zimmer won his fourth feature as well in the Street Stock ranks. Buck Mills Jr. also became a four time winner in the Junkyard Dogs while Young Pups graduate Trevor Dudley won his first Junkyard Pups feature event. The Sportsman division feature came to the green flag paced by defending track champion Jim “Rocky” Rothwell and John Morse. At the drop of the green flag, Rothwell sprinted off into the lead as fourth starting Tom Collins Jr. made an aggressive move into the runner-up position. While Rothwell and Collins set the early pace, eventual winner Kevin Jordan had found the outside groove of the speedway to his liking and the popular veteran driver from Speedsville, NY was on his way toward the front form his eighth starting position. By the time the race reached the halfway point, Jordan had advanced to third, still making time on the high side of the speedway. With Rothwell continuing to lead, the battle was on for the second position as Collins, Jordan, and Alan Barker were locked in an intense battle for the second spot. After several laps of hard racing, Jordan moved into the second position and set his sights on Rothwell as the laps wound down. Jordan caught Rothwell with just a handful of laps remaining, and the two veterans spent several laps racing side by side before Jordan was able to complete the winning pass just two laps from the finish. Jordan led the final two laps to earn the win, his first of the season at Skyline. Rothwell hung on to finish second with Barker just nosing out Collins for third. Collins scored fourth with Burch Green completing the top five finishing order. For the second straight week, the battle for the IMCA Modified victory came down to a showdown between veterans JJ Courcy and Chris Fleming. Courcy took over the race lead on the third lap while Fleming was hard at work charging back through the pack after involvement in a first lap incident sent him to the rear of the field. By the halfway point of the event, Fleming had made it back to second and set his sights on Courcy. The second half of the race saw Fleming applying heavy pressure to Courcy, but JJ was up to the challenge as he was able to hold Fleming off. A late race slide job attempt by Fleming was countered with a perfectly executed crossover move that enabled Courcy to hang onto the lead and race on to victory, his fourth win of the season. Fleming finished a strong second with defending track champion Kevan Cook third. Mike Smith finished fourth with defending Northeast Region Rookie of the Year Dan Searls rounding out the top five. Earl Zimmer also became a four time winner on Saturday night as “The Logger” charged to victory. Zimmer made the winning pass on the 15th circuit, driving to the high side of race leader Jake Fowlston to take the race lead. Zimmer led the rest of the way to score the victory over Sportsman regular Butch Green, who was subbing for his brother Rich for the night aboard the Boynton Motorsports #3L. Jake Fowlston finished third ahead of defending track champion Brenton Miller and Darrell Krebs, who was making his second start of 2013. Buck Mills Jr. scored a hard earned feature win in the Junkyard Dogs feature event. Mills and Lanson Albanese locked up in a side by side battle for the win that featured many laps of hard side by side racing complete with some door banging and sparks flying between the two. Mills came out on top of the battle as he worked past Albanese for good on the final lap, winning by a narrow margin over Albanese. Bill Leonard recovered from an early race incident to finish third with Tyrone Scott fourth. Connor VanValkenburg finished fifth. Trevor Dudley won his first career Junkyard Pups feature in that division’s 15 lap feature event. Dudley, a graduate of the 2012 Young Pups division, passed Keith Potter for the lead on the third lap and led the rest of the way to pick up that elusive first win. Mechanical failure would take Potter out of the running with Brett Stevens finishing second. Defending champion Phil Burns finished third with Rick Sensabaugh fourth. Nick Seiter was the fifth place finisher. Next Saturday night features a big five division show with all of Skyline’s regular divisions in action. The Sportsman, IMCA Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Junkyard Dogs, and Junkyard Pups will all be in action as well., For all the latest information, log onto Skyline’s website at www.skylineracewayny.com ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 5/18/13 JIM LaROCK, JJ COURCY, EARL ZIMMER, LANSON ALBANESE, AND BRETT STEVENS CELEBRATE SKYLINE FEATURE WINS Last Saturday night at the Skyline Raceway saw some repeat winners and some new faces in victory lane. Jim LaRock drove to his second feature win of 2013 in the 25 lap Sportsman feature while JJ Courcy earned his third win of the season after a thrilling battle with Chris Fleming. Earl Zimmer won his third feature n the Street Stock ranks. New winners on Saturday night were Lanson Albanese in the Junkyard Dogs and Brett Stevens in the Junkyard Pups. Chris Jordan and Jim LaRock paced the Sportsman field to the green flag to start their 25 lap feature. LaRock immediately seized control of the event as he jumped from his outside pole position to beat Jordan into the first turn to take over the lead. With the feature being slowed only once by the caution flag for a minor spin on lap 14, LaRock was able to dominate the race aboard his Auto Value sponsored #58L. Jim would lead all 25 laps to secure his second trip to victory lane already in 2013. Behind LaRock, the race was on for the runner-up position as Chris Jordan and brother Kevin Jordan locked up in a race long battle for that position. Chris Jordan, making his return to racing in 2013 after several seasons on the sidelines, was running second but was under heavy pressure from his brother. That battle would last most of the race was Chris was able to hold Kevin off for the majority of the event before Kevin was able to finally work past to take the second spot on lap 21. Chris Jordan finished third ahead of impressive rookie Eric Leet and Nick Nye rounding out the top five. The IMCA Modifieds had a tough time in getting their feature started as several early incidents lead to caution flags in the opening laps of the event. The caution flags kept the field bunched up as Lyle Smith led the first three laps before eighth starting JJ Courcy was able to advance to the lead on the fourth circuit. After the early race problems, the second half of the race settled down to some exciting racing at the front of the field. Seventh starting Chris Fleming moved to the runner-up position and was all over Courcy as the laps wound down. The two veterans put on a show for the Skyline fans with Fleming working the inside and Courcy up top. A final caution on lap 18 set up a two laps dash to the finish as the two veterans of IMCA Modified competition were set to do battle. Courcy controlled the restart and continued to lead. On the final lap, Fleming went for the slide job in the first turn, sliding past Courcy to lead momentarily. Courcy countered by turning under Fleming and driving back past into the lead down the backstretch. That same sequence was repeated in the third turn as once again Fleming was able slide up in front of Courcy, but JJ again was able to execute a perfect crossover move to drive back under Fleming and narrowly beat Fleming to the flag. Courcy took the win with Fleming settling for second in the race of the night that had the fans on their feet. Bumps Scutt finished third ahead of Logan Terry, who recovered from mid-race brake problems to finish fourth. Early leader Lyle Smith finished fifth. In Pure Stock action it was “The Logger”, Earl Zimmer driving to his third victory of the season. Jake Fowlson grabbed the early lead and set the pace of the first six laps before giving way to Zimmer. Zimmer led the remainder of the event to score the victory with Fowlson holding off a determined challenge from Brenton Miller to finish second. Miller crossed the line third trailed by Scott Smith and John Cooper Jr. Lanson Albanese parlayed an outside pole starting spot into his first Junkyard Dogs feature win of the season. Albanese led all 15 laps of the event to score the win over Bill Leonard. Georgie Brown made a rare Skyline start, finishing third ahead of Buck Mills Jr., and Bill Flask. Brett Stevens turned in an impressive drive to win the Junkyard pups feature. After being unable to start his heat race with mechanical issues, Stevens was forced to tag the rear of the feature event. Undaunted by the poor starting position, Stevens worked the outside groove of the speedway to pass the entire field and score the win without the aid of a caution flag in the non-stop feature. Stevens lade the winning pass on lap 11, driving past early leader Keith Potter. Isaiah Forward also worked past potter on the final lap to finish second with Potter third. Trevor Dudley finished fourth ahead of defending track champion Phil Burns in fifth. Next week features two big nights of racing action, Saturday night features a big five division show with all of Skyline’s regular divisions in action. On Sunday, the IMCA Modifieds take center stage for their annual Empire State Series events as all of the top IMCA talent in the Northeast will descend on Skyline for the 37 lap Ryan Elllis Memorial event. By race time, the rain moved out of the area and the racing went on a scheduled as Skyline‘s track crew had the track in perfect racing shape, fast, smooth, and tacky. Skyline Raceway management ran off quick, efficient show with the final checkered flag waving at 9:15 PM. Ryan Jordan drove to his first victory of the 2013 season in the 25 lap Sportsman feature while defending track champion Kevan Cook scored his first in IMCA Modified action. The 20 lap Street Stock feature saw Butch Green top Earl Zimmer in after a 9 lap side by side battle that had the crowd on their feet. Buck Mills Jr. won his third Junkyard Dogs feature with Isaiah Forward winning his second Junkyard Pups feature event. Eric Leet and John Morse paced the starting field to the green flag for the start of the 25 lap Sportsman feature. Leet, an impressive first year driver making just his fourth Sportsman start, grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag. Morse dropped in behind Leet as the rookie established himself as the race leader over veterans Morse, Jim Rothwell, and Jim LaRock. With no changes among the leaders, the man on the move was eventual winner Ryan Jordan. Ryan was the first to test the outside groove of the speedway and found the high side to be fast. Ryan quickly worked his way into the top five, charging hard on the top side. At the halfway point of the race, Leet’s impressive run continued as he held the top spot over Morse. The second and final caution of the race for a Chris Jordan spin waved on the 14th lap, bunching up the field. Ryan Jordan made a big move on the restart, charging his way up to the third position. Two laps later he was able to drive around the outside of Morse to move into the runner-up position and set his sights on race leader Leet. Jordan made the winning pass on the 20th circuit as he was able to take command of the event, charging around the outside of Leet to take over the race lead. Once out front, Ryan led the final five laps to drive into victory lane for the first time in 2013. Leet’s second place run was a career best effort since joining the division at the start of the season. Tom Collins Jr. made a late pass of John Morse to finish third with Morse fourth. Opening night winner Butch Green came home in fifth. The 20 lap IMCA Modified feature saw 2012 IMCA Northeast Region Rookie of the Year Dan Searles Grab the early race lead with Bumps Scutt dropping into the second spot. Eventual winner Kevan Cook started eighth but wasted little time in making his way toward the front of the field as the early stages of the IMCA Modified feature saw plenty of three and four wide racing as drivers took advantage of the fast, wide speedway. Scutt would exit the event with mechanical issues just prior to the halfway point with Cook taking over the runner-up position. Cook made the winning pass at the halfway point as he drove past Searles into the lead. Over the closing laps, Cook had to deal with a challenge from Chris Fleming as the two most recent Skyline Raceway champions locked up in a battle for the win. Cook was able to hold off Fleming all the way to score the win with Fleming finishing second. JJ Courcy recovered from a mid-race incident and two pit stops to make his way back through the field to finish third. Invader Matt Roberts crossed the line in fourth with early race leader Dan Searles scoring the fifth place finish. The 20 lap Pure Stock feature turned out to be the race of the night and of the year so far. The race for the win came down to be a battle between two of the area’s top Pure Stock drivers as Butch Green and Earl Zimmer locked up in a titanic battle for the win. The two veteran drivers put on a show for the Skyline fans as they raced side by side around the fast 3/8 mile for nine laps inches apart. The fans were on their feet as the two gave it their all in a clean, hard fought battle for the win. Green came out on top of the battle to earn his first win of 2013 with Zimmer finishing in the runner-up position. In a show of sportsmanship, Zimmer drove to victory lane to congratulate Green for his victory after a hard fought battle. Jake Fowlston finished third ahead of early race leader Scott Smith and defending track champion Brenton Miller. Not to be outdone, the Junkyard Dogs feature was also a thrilling race that went right down to the final turn as Buck Mills Jr. narrowly defeated Lanson Albanese to earn the win. It was an eventful night for Mills, who had an oil fire erupt under the hood following his heat race. Some quick work by Mills and his crew got the car ready to go for the feature, which he ultimately won. Bill Leonard finished third over Bill Flask. Tyrone Scott completed the top five. Isaiah Forward came out on top of the Junkyard Pups feature, his second win of the 2013 season. Forward passed early leader Keith Potter on the 12th lap and led the final three to earn the win over Potter. Brett Stevens finished third with invader Buddy French fourth. Rick Sinsabaugh rounded out the top five. Racing continues next Saturday night at 6:30 PM. The Sportsman, IMCA Modified, Street Stocks, Junkyard Dogs, and Junkyard Pups will all be in action in a big night of stock car racing action. Former track champion Chris Fleming also scored his first triumph of 2013, driving to victory in the 20 lap IMCA Modified feature event. Defending Pure Stock division champion Brenton Miller won his second feature of the season with Bill Leonard winning his first Junkyard Dogs feature of the season. Bobby Wagner topped the 15 lap Junkyard Pups feature. Eventual feature winner Jim LaRock and Randy Shantel paced the field to Andy Clements’ green flag to start the 25 lap feature event. As the green flag waved, LaRock immediately moved into the lead as behind him. Kevin Jordan made a big move from his fourth starting position to run second behind LaRock. With LaRock running solidly in the low groove, Jordan was utilizing the high side of the speedway, keeping heavy pressure on LaRock. The two veterans spent the first half of the race battling for the top spot with LaRock able to fend off Jordan’s every challenge. The 25 lap event would run non-stop as it was never necessary to display the caution flag. As the race began to wind down, LaRock continued to lead over Jordan, but the two were mired in heavy lapped traffic with just five laps remaining in the event. The traffic allowed opening night winner Butch Green to move into a challenging position. Utilizing the inside groove, Green was able to slip past Jordan to run second and set his sights on LaRock. With Green now just behind in position to pounce should the race leader make a mistake. LaRock did a masterful job of working the lapped traffic, never opening the door enough for Green to take a shot at the lead. As the checkered flag waved, it was LaRock’s Auto Value sponsored #58L first under the flag with Green just behind in second. Kevin Jordan hung on to finish third, just ahead of his nephew Ryan Jordon. Alan Barker completed the top five finishers. The 20 lap IMCA Modified feature came to the post with Mike Smith and Chris Fleming sharing the front row. The two former champions would put on a show for the Skyline fans as Smith grabbed the early lead with Fleming in hot pursuit. Smith would lead the opening circuits before Fleming was able to storm past to take over the lead. Once out front, Fleming was able to lead the remainder of the event despite heavy pressure from JJ Courcy and Smith throughout the event. Courcy’s bid for a third straight victory would come to an end just five laps from the finish with rear end failure. Fleming would lead the rest of the way to score the win over Smith. Defending track champion Kevan Cook drove to a third place finish with Logan Terry fourth in his first Skyline appearance of 2013. Former Junkyard Pups star Nick Greist finished fifth in his first Skyline IMCA Modified start. In the 20 lap Pure Stock feature, it was defending track champion Brenton Miller coming out on top of an entertaining battle with Earl Zimmer for the win. Miller passed early leader Scott Smith to take over the lead early, but a fast closing Zimmer made the closing laps interesting as he had closed to Miller’s rear deck by the time the checkered flag waved for Miller. Zimmer finished second with early leader Smith finishing third. Jake Fowlston finished fourth with Gene Sharpsteen completing the top five finishers. “Wild” Bill Leonard earned his first win of 2013 in the 15 lap Junkyard Dogs feature. As the race wound down, Leonard was under heavy pressure from Buck Mills Jr., who was seeking his third straight win. As the white flag was waving, Mills suddenly fell off the pace with rear end problems. Leonard drove on to score the win as Bill Flask passed Mills’ disabled car to finish second with Mills managing to limp across the line to finish third. Connor VanValkenburg finished a season high fourth with Todd Smith finishing fifth. Bobby Wagner drove to victory in the 15 lap Junkyard Pups feature event, his first win of 2013. Nick Nye capitalized on a front row starting position to drive to his first win of the 2013 season in the 25 lap Sportsman feature while JJ Courcy turned in a solid drive to earn his second victory of the season. “The Logger” Earl Zimmer topped the Pure Stock feature with Buck Mills Jr. winning his second of the season in the Junkyard Dogs. Young Pups graduate Isaiah Forward won his first career Junkyard Pups feature, his first win since moving up into the adult class. With the feature line-ups being set by a blind draw for the first three weeks of the season before regular handicapping system kicks in, Nick Nye and his Adhan Piping teammate Alan Barker paced the field to the green flag. At the drop of the green flag, Barker grabbed the early lead and would set the pace for the first few circuits before Nye would slip past for the lead on a mid race restart. With Nye now showing the way, it was Barker now in challenge mode as the two teammates continued to battle for the lead, often racing side by side as they battled for the lead. As the race entered its closing stages, the man on the move was Tom Collins Jr. Collins slipped past Barker for second as Alan was beginning to drop off the pace. Collins tried to make a late un at Nye, but simply ran out of laps as Nye flashed under the checkered flag to score the win with Collins in hot pursuit. Collins finished second ahead of opening night winner Butch Green, who also worked past Barker. Barker hung on to finish fourth with a rapidly deflating right rear tire. Defending champion Jim “Rocky” Rothwell came home in fifth. For the second straight week, it was JJ Courcy driving to victory in the 20 lap IMCA Modified feature. Courcy rebounded in a big way from crash damage at his Friday night track as JJ and his teammate Bryan VanTassel burned the midnight oil making repairs. They got the job done as JJ was the class of the field on Saturday night, grabbing the lead early and was never seriously challenged. Behind Courcy, the battle was certainly on for the runner-up position as last year’s IMCA Regional Rookie of the Year Dan Searles and defending Skyline Champion Kevan Cook battled side by side for many laps. Searles just nosed out Cook for the second position with Cook third. Bumps Scutt finished fourth ahead of a returning Lyle Smith, who was making his first Skyline start in several seasons. The Pure/Street Stock division also put on a show for the Skyline fans as they ran their 20 lap feature without the need for a caution flag. The race featured a three way battle at the head of the field as Earl Zimmer, Rich Green, and Brent Miller locked up in a three way battle for the lead. After 20 laps of hard racing it was Zimmer getting to the checkered flag first by a narrow margin over Green, who was making his Skyline season debut. Defending track champion Brent Miller finished third with Jake Fowlston and Scott Smith rounding out the top five. Buck Mills Jr. domination of the Factory Stock (Junkyard Dog) division continued on Saturday night as he drove to his second win in as many starts. Mills took over the top spot with a daring outside move on the backstretch to take over the lead from early race leader Bill Leonard. Once out front, Mills lead the rest of the way to score the win. Bill Flask worked past Leonard late to finish second with Leonard crossing the line third. Chuck Culbertson finished fourth with TJ Scott driving his El Camino to a fifth place finish. Isaiah Forward graduated into the Junkyard Pups from the Young Pups division in 2012, and the teenager wasted little time in becoming a winner in the Junkyard Pups as he drove to a convincing win on Saturday night. Forward had to hold off a strong challenge from opening night winner Keith Potter to earn the win. Potter finished second ahead of a fast closing Bobby Wagner. Jim Wood and Brett Stevens completed the top five. Racing continues next Saturday night at 6:30 PM. The Sportsman, IMCA Modified, Street Stocks, Junkyard Dogs, and Junkyard Pups will all be in action in a series of heat races leading up to five big feature events. Despite the cold weather, Skyline Raceway management went on with the show with Butch Green opening up the Sportsman season with a convincing feature win. JJ Courcy put on a display of rim riding as he drove the outside groove to perfection to score the IMCA Modified victory. Some late race heroics earned Brenton Miller a Street Stock victory while defending champion Buck Mills Jr. opened his title defense with the Junkyard Dogs feature win. Keith Potter scored the opening night win in the Junkyard Pups. With the 25 lap Sportsman main being lined up heads-up from heat race finishes, Green scored a win in the first heat to earn himself the pole position flanked by rookie drive Colton Wilson. Green quickly drove to the lead at the drop of the green flag with Wilson dropping in behind. With Green leading the race, defending champion Jim Rothwell was the man on the move, advancing from his fifth starting spot to take second from Wilson and set his sights on Green. Green was able to hold onto the top spot as Rothwell was glued to his rear bumper. As the race crossed the halfway point it was still Green holding onto a marrow advantage over Rothwell and Nick Nye. As the race was winding down, Rothwell was continuing to pressure green. Just three laps from the end of the race, Rothwell made his move as he dropped to the low side of Green. Unfortunately, there was not enough room to the low side as the hole Rothwell was going for closed up, resulting in Jim getting out of shape and spinning out of second place after more contact from oncoming traffic. With Rothwell out of the picture, Green led the final three laps to score the win. Kevin Jordan worked past Nick Nye on the final lap to finish second with Nye settling for third. Micro Sprint graduate Colton Wilson finished fourth in his first Sportsman start with newcomer Eric Leet finishing fifth. The 20 lap opening night IMCA Modified feature saw JJ Courcy driving to victory. Courcy took the green flag for the 20 lap event back in the eighth starting position, but he wasted little time in making his way to the front of the field. Courcy put on a masterful display of rim riding around the 3/8 mile, utilizing the outside groove to make his way toward the front of the field. Courcy lade the winning pass on the lap 6 as he blasted around the outside of defending Empire State Series Champion Eddie Sites to take over the lead. Over the closing laps, Courcy had to hold off a late challenge from defending track champion Kevan Cook to score the win with Cook finishing second. Early race leader Sites finished third in a rare Skyline appearance while Chris Fleming recovered from an early race incident to finish fourth. Invader Gary Roberts rounded out the top five finishers Defending Street Stock champion Brenton Miller started off his title defense with a hard fought feature win. Paul Harrington jumped out to the early lead and would lead the first 17 laps of the event, but could not hold off Miller’s charge as Brenton made the winning pass just three laps from the end of the event. Harrington was able to hang on to score a runner-up finish, his best ever Skyline result. Earl Zimmer finished third ahead of Jake Fowlston and Gene Sharpsteen. Buck Mills Jr. led all 15 laps to earn the Junkyard Dogs feature win. Mills held off a racelong challenge from “Wild” Bill Leonard to score the victory with Leonard second. Chuck Culbertson finished third ahead of Dave Ackley, who finished fourth in his first ever Skyline start. Tyrone Scott drove Kati Smith’s #2XL to a fifth place finish. Keith Potter opened the Junkyard Pups season with a feature win, holding off 2012 Young Pups graduate Isaiah Forward for the win. Bobby Wagner finished third ahead of Jim Wood. Brett Stevens rounded out the top five finishers on opening night. Racing continues next Saturday night at 6:30 PM. The Sportsman, IMCA Modified, Street Stocks, Junkyard Dogs, and Junkyard Pups will all be in action in a series of heat races leading up to five big feature events. Keystone State star Eddie Sites chose the perfect night to win his first career feature at Skyline Raceway as he drove to victory in the 40 lap Pistol Chassis sponsored finale for the IMCA Modifieds, collecting the $1,000 top prize. Butch Green drove to victory in the final Sportsman event of the season with Earl Zimmer earning his third Skyline Raceway victory of the season in the Pre Stock division. Brandon Neilson also became a three time winner in the Junkyard Dogs with David Kinne winning his first ever Skyline feature in the Junkyard Pups. The 40 lap Pistol Chassis IMCA Modified event saw Mike Smith and Rich Crompton pace the field to the green flag based on a redraw among the heat race qualifiers. Crompton led the first lap of the event before surrendering the top spot to Smith. The early stages of the feature saw the battle for the lead be between Smith and Fleming, both back racing on their home turf after impressive showings at the IMCA Supernationals in Boone, Iowa. Several early caution flags kept the field bunched up and the battles tight as Jerry Lobdell Jr. joined in the battle at the front of the field. Lobdell was able to work past Smith on a lap 11 restart and set the pace for a couple of laps before surrendering the lead back to Smith three laps later. At the halfway point, Smith held a narrow lead over Lobdell and Matt Roberts. Roberts was able to slip past Lobdell to take over the runner-up position with Smith seemingly in control of the race. The entire complexion of the event changed on the 30th lap as a driveshaft failure caused Mike to come to a stop and eliminate him from the event, turning the lead over to Roberts with eventual winner Sites up to second from his seventh starting position. Roberts would lead the next four laps before Sites was able to make what would prove to be the winning pass on the 34th circuit. Sites would lead the final six laps to pick up the victory. Gary Roberts slipped past Matt Roberts late in the event to earn a runner-up finish over his son, Matt in third. Jerry Lobdell raced among the leaders the entire distance to finish fourth with JJ Courcy overcoming an early flat tire to rebound for a fifth place finish. The 30 lap Sportsman feature came to the green flag with Lee DeWitt and Larry Hillis Jr. pacing the field to the green flag. DeWitt grabbed the early lead over Hillis and eventual winner Butch Green, who started the event from third. A lap seven restart would prove to be the pivotal moment of the race as Green pulled off a daring move in the first turn to slip past both Hillis and DeWitt to take over the race lead. Once out front, Green was dominant as led the remainder of the distance. “Fast” Eddie White made a run at Green, but mechanical problems eliminated him from the event on the 20th circuit. When the race restarted, Green led the rest of the way to score the win over Hillis, who finished second in a rare Skyline appearance. Nick Nye finished a solid third ahead of championship runner-up Tom Collins Jr. and early leader Lee DeWitt, who rounded out the top five finishers. The 25 lap Pure Stock feature saw “The Logger”, Earl Zimmer drive to his third Skyline feature win of the season. Gene Sharpsteen started on pole and led the early laps, but a tangle between he and Chris Fisher while racing for the lead eliminated both from contention for the win. Lou Gordonier then led the next eight laps before Zimmer was able to make the winning pass just five laps from the finish. Zimmer led the final five laps, holding off a late charge from Rich Sharpsteen, who brought the Vancise Motorsports #83N home second. Kurt Stebbins finished third ahead of Gordonier and a fast closing Jeremy Potrzebowski. Brandon Neilson closed out the Junkyard Dogs feature with his third win of the season. Neilson inherited the lead just three laps from the end when a close battle for the lead between Buck Mills Sr. and Georgie Brown saw the two tangle while racing for the lead. This turned the lead over to Neilson, who led the final three laps to earn the win. Jake Fowlston drove to a runner-up finish with Bob Lovine third. Grayson Albanese recovered from an early race incident to salvage a fourth place finish with Bill Leonard completing the top five. The closest race of the night was the Junkyard Pups feature event, which saw David Kinne just nose out Bobby Wagner in a photo finish to earn his first Skyline feature win. The two battled hard the entire distance with Kinne earning the win with a pass off the fourth turn on the final lap. Wagner settled for a strong runner-up finish with teenage racing sensation Timothy VanDemark third. Newly crowned Four Cylinder champion Phil Burns finished fourth with Scott Forward completing the top five finishing positions. At intermission, the Sportsman and IMCA Modified teams were honored with their point awards as trophies and point awards were distributed to the top five finishers in the season long point standings. With the running of the Turbo Blue Finale, the 25th anniversary season of racing at the Skyline Raceway is now complete. Skyline Raceway management would like to thank all of the racers and fans for their support during a very successful 2012 season that saw 22 consecutive racing events run without a rainout. Speedway officials are already hard at work putting together plans for the 2013 racing season. As things come together over the winter months, look for updates on the speedway’s official website at www.skylineracewayny.com.9/8/12 KEVIN JORDAN SCORES AT SKYLINE Skyline Raceway’s 25th anniversary celebration continued on Saturday night with the final tune-up for next week‘s Turbo Blue Finale. Despite afternoon rains and a dire forecast, Skyline Raceway Management chose not to cancel early and attempt to get the show in. Their perseverance was rewarded as the rains stopped and fans and drivers enjoyed a pleasant night of racing. In Sportsman action, Kevin Jordan drove his Brewer’s Construction sponsored entry to his fifth victory of the season. Tony Harris picked up the IMCA Modified win in his first ever Skyline IMCA Modified start. Brenton Miller won his ninth Street Stock feature of the season while Grayson Albanese topped the Junkyard Dogs feature. Timothy VanDermark won his fourth Junkyard Pups feature of the season. With the point season already completed, all line-ups were set via the luck of the draw. The 25 lap Sportsman feature came to the green flag paced by a pair of Jordans as Ryan Jordan started o pole flanked by his uncle Kevin Jordan. At the drop of the green flag, Kevin Jordan grabbed the race lead as he powered around the outside or Ryan to take over the race lead. The first half of the event saw Kevin continuing to lead over Ryan but a new player was coming to the front as former track champion Jim LaRock was challenging Ryan for the runner-up position. Just past the halfway point, LaRock was able to slip past Ryan and set his sights on Kevin. LaRock was able to close the gap on Jordan and began to apply heavy pressure to Jordan’s rear bumper. The two spent the closing stages of the event locked in a battle for the win as the two veterans raced hard. At one point, LaRock was able to make a move to the low side of Jordan off the fourth turn to momentarily seize the lead, but Jordan was able to power back past LaRock to retake the lead. Kevin led the rest of the way to score the win with LaRock finishing just behind. Randy Brokaw drove to a third place finish with Butch Green finishing fourth ahead of Brian White. The 20 lap IMCA Modified feature saw a new face in victory lane as Tony Harris drove his “9cat” entry to victory in his first ever Skyline IMCA Modified start. Harris had the good fortune to draw the pole position and took full advantage, grabbing the lead at the drop of the green flag and leading all 20 laps to park his Nitro chassied machine in victory lane. Jerry Lobdell Jr. chased Harris all the way before settling for a strong runner-up finish ahead of Bumps Scutt, Rich Crompton, and newcomer Jason Tuttle. In Street Stock action, Brenton Miller capped off a championship season with his ninth feature win of the season. Miller took the lead from early pacesetter Scott Smith on the fourth lap, then held off a late charge by Jake Fowlston to earn the win. Fowlston finished second ahead of Smith, Lou Gordonier, and Darryl Krebs. Grayson Alabanese drove to victory in the 15 lap Junkyard Dogs feature event. Grayson passed Buck Mills Jr. on the seventh lap and led the rest of the event. Derrick Symonds also worked past Mills to finish second with Mills third. In Sportsman action, current point leader Jim “Rocky” Rothwell drive to his fifth win of the season in Sportsman action. A new face pulled into the IMCA Modified victory lane as J.J. Courcy earned his first win of the season in an exciting race with Chris Fleming. Brenton Miller utilized a last lap pass to top the Street Stock feature for his seventh win of the season. Buck Mills Jr. scored his tenth win of the season in the Junkyard Dogs feature. Bobby Wagner won his sixth Junkyard Pups feature event. The 25 lap Sportsman feature came to the green flag with Randy Shantel and Nick Nye on the front row. As the green flag waved, Shantel powered out to an early lead. The early stages of the event saw eventual winner Rothwell working his way forward from his seventh starting position as Shantel continued to set the pace. As the race neared the halfway point it was Shantel leading over Kevin Jordan, Jim LaRock, and eventual winner Rothwell. Rothwell utilized the high groove of the speedway to drive around both LaRock and Jordan and run down Shantel. The battle for the top spot was a good one as Shantel and Rothwell raced side by side for several laps before Rothwell was finally able to clear Shantel and take over the lead for good on the 20th circuit. Once out front, Rothwell would lead the final four laps to bring his Ford powered entry into victory lane for the fifth time this season. Shantel drove to a strong runner-up finish ahead of Kevin Jordan, Jim LaRock, and Ryan Jordan. The 20 lap IMCA Modified feature saw a new face in victory lane as J.J. Courcy drove to his first feature win of the season in only his second Skyline appearance in 2012. Wheeling the Brian VanTassel owned #76, Courcy capitalized on a pole starting position to lead all 20 laps of the feature event. While he led all 20 laps, it was far from an easy win as over the second half of the event Courcy was under heavy pressure from defending track champion Chris Fleming. The two veteran drivers locked up in a side by side battle over the closing laps as Fleming threw everything he had at Courcy. At the finish it was Courcy earning the win by less than half a car length over Fleming in a thrilling race. Kevan Cook finished third ahead of Jerry Lobdell and Bumps Scutt. Current point leader Brenton Miller took another step toward the 2012 track championship as he drove to his seventh win of 2012. It was a dramatic victory for Miller as he made the winning pass coming off the fourth turn on the final lap, just nosing out Jake Fowlston at the line by about one foot to score the win. Fowlston, who became a new father during the week, led the majority of the race and earned a strong runner-up finish. Lou Gordonier finished third ahead of Kevin Boynton and Darryl Krebs. Buck Mills Jr. returned to victory lane in the Junkyard Dogs division to earn his tenth feature win of the season, the best win total for any driver at Skyline in 2012. It was an interesting evening for Mills, who spent the intermission period digging through the scrub brush off the backstretch to recover a wheel and tire that was lost during heart race action. The errant wheel was found and remounted on the right rear and Mills drove to victory, narrowly defeating Bill Leonard to score the win over Leonard. Chuck Culbertson made a rare Skyline start and finished third ahead of Skyline’s two female competitors as Katie Smith finished fourth with Kari Barber fifth. Bobby Wagner came out on top of an entertaining battle with Timothy VanDermark to earn the win in the Junkyard Pups division. Wagner made the winning pass on the 14th lap and went on to score the win over Skyline’s reigning Young Pups champion. DeWitt would lead the first two circuits before surrendering the top spot to eventual winner Ken Hammond, who moved from his third starting position to take the lead from DeWitt on the third circuit. Jim LaRock would also work past DeWitt a couple of laps later and set his sights on Hammond. Those two drivers would settle the race for the win between themselves. Hammond continued to lead the event with LaRock in hot pursuit. As the race entered the closing stages, Hammond continued to lead, holding a slim advantage over LaRock. As the laps wound down, LaRock was pushing hard to close the gap on Hammond, but Kenny was driving a strong race, hitting his marks perfectly in every turn to maintain his advantage over LaRock. Hammond was able to hold the lead all the way to the finish to take the win over LaRock. Current point leader Jim Rothwell charged from his eighth starting position to finish third with Randy Brokaw and Ryan Jordan completing the top five finishing order. The 20 lap IMCA Modified feature saw a new face in victory lane as Bumps Scutt drove to his first feature win of the 2012 season. It was a hard fought victory for Scutt as he found himself under heavy pressure from defending track champion Chris Fleming as the laps wound down. The two battled hard with Fleming looking to the inside of Scutt in every turn. Each time, Scutt was able to utilize the momentum of the outside groove to keep Fleming at bay. Kevin made a last ditch effort in the final turn, but got in too hard and nearly spun allowing Scutt to sprint on for a very popular feature win. Fleming recovered to finish second ahead of rookie sensation Dan Searls. Mark Griffin finished fourth in his first appearance in several weeks with Jerry Lobdell Jr. completing the top five. Current point leader Brenton Miller took another step toward the 2012 track championship as he drove to his sixth win of 2012. Brandon Neilson drove to victory in the Junkyard Dogs division to earn his first feature win since the 2006 season, the last year he competed regularly. In Sportsman action, current point leader Jim “Rocky“ Rothwell came to the track with Chevrolet power under the hood instead of his trusty Ford, but the results were the same as he earned his fourth feature win of 2012. Lee DeWitt and Nick Nye brought the 17 car Sportsman field down to the green flag with DeWitt grabbing the top spot at the drop of the green flag. DeWitt would lead the first two circuits before surrendering the top spot to Jim La Rock. Behind LaRock, eventual winner Rothwell was making tracks to the front of the field, utilizing the outside groove f the track to race his way into contention. It took Rothwell only six laps to run down LaRock. The two veteran drivers spent several laps racing side by side before Rothwell was able to take the lead away from LaRock on the ninth circuit. Once out front, Rothwell had to contend with persistent challenges from LaRock, who several times was able to get his nose underneath Rocky in the turns, but each time Rothwell was able to get a better run off the turn to maintain his advantage. The battle for the lead raged all the way to the finish with Rothwell just managing to hold off LaRock for win #4 on the season. Championship contender Tom Collins kept his title hopes alive with a third place finish with Randy Brokaw fourth. Byron Worthing was running fifth but caught a marker tire on the final lap, surrendering the final spot in the top five to Nick Nye. Chris Fleming ended Kevan Cook’s winning streak in the 20 lap IMCA Modified feature. Fleming passed Jerry Lobdell for the lead on the fifth lap then held off a fast closing Cook to score the win and hold onto the division point lead. The second half of the event saw Earl Zimmer, Rich Green, and Brenton Miller lock up in a three way battle for the win. Zimmer got to the lead first, but was battling mechanical issues as he was showing smoke form a failing rear end in his #2ez. Zimmer managed to make it to the finish to just hold off Green for the win, his third of the year. Green finished second ahead of point leader Brenton Miller. Darryl Krebs finished fourth with Nate Stevens finishing fifth in his first start in several years. In Sportsman action, current point leader Jim “Rocky“ Rothwell drove his Ford powered Sportsman entry to his third win of the 2012 campaign. Kevan Cook continued his winning ways in the IMCA Modified feature, earning his seventh win of the season. Rich Green topped the Street Stock feature with Buck Mills Jr. earning his eighth Junkyard Dogs feature of the season. Bobby Wagner returned to victory lane for the fourth time in Junkyard Pups action. The 25 lap Sportsman feature came to the green flag with Nick Nye and Jim LaRock sharing the front row for the start of the 25 lap event. The two put on a show in the early laps of the event as they battled side by side, swapping the lead back and forth a couple of times. Unfortunately for the duo, their racing got a bit too intense as racing into the first turn on the eighth lap as two made contact which resulted in both having to restart from the rear. This would prove to be the only break that Rothwell would need as his third place in the running order suddenly became the race lead. Though he would lead the remainder of the 25 lap distance, it was far from an easy win for Rothwell. As the laps wound down, Jim found himself facing a new challenge in the person of John Morse. Morse arrived late to the speedway, missing his hear race and had to start the feature from scratch position. Morse utilized the extreme outside groove to charge his way into contention for the win. Over the final laps, Morse had closed in on Rothwell, but Jim was able to hold off the challenge to earn the victory. Morse drove to a solid runner-up finish ahead of Ryan Jordan, Tom Collins Jr., and Randy Brokaw. The early stages of the event saw the battle for the lead between Hammond and LaRock, a battle that would come to an end just prior to the halfway point as LaRock pulled to the infield with mechanical issues. Over the second half of the race, a new challenger emerged as current point leader Jim “Rocky” Rothwell was utilizing the high side of the race track to charge from deep in the field. Rothwell put on a display of rim-riding for the Skyline fans as he advanced to second and was quickly closing down on Hammond as the laps wound down. Though Rothwell was able to slice well into the lead that Hammond had built up, Rothwell simply ran out of laps before he could challenge Hammond and had to settle for a runner-up finish behind Hammond, who celebrated his victory with a trip onto the roof of the car to trigger a raucous victory lane celebration. Fowlston drove to a solid runner-up finish ahead of Scott Smith, John Cooper Jr., and Lou Gordonier. For the seventh time in 2012, the checkered flag in the Junkyard Dogs division went to Buck Mills Jr. Mills and Scott Brown spent most of the race locked in a tight battle for the win with Mills managing to hold off Brown to earn the win. The 25 lap Sportsman feature event came to the green flag with eventual winner Nick Nye taking the green flag from the fifth starting position. John Morse set the early pace as Nye drove his way into contention. Nick made what would prove to be the winning move on the 18th circuit as he drove past Morse to take over the lead. Nye went on to lead the final seven laps to earn his first victory of the season. Behind him, teammate Butch Green made a late charge to finish second, a sweep of the top tyo positions for the team. Current point leader Tom Collins finished third ahead of Morse and Jim Rothwell. In the 20 lap IMCA Modified feature, Mike Smith returned to victory lane with a strong run. Mike started seventh on the field but wasted little time in making his way toward the front of the field. By the halfway point, Smith was locked in a tight battle for the lead with Chris Fleming as the two traded the lead back and forth. Unfortunately for Fleming, mechanical problems would send him pitside with just three laps remaining. This set up a three lap dash to the finish between Smith and Kevan Cook, who brought a two race winning streak into Sunday’s event. Cook was able to take the lead, but Smith saved up some last lap heroics as he slipped past Cook on the final circuit to claim the victory. Cook settled for a solid runner-up finish ahead of invader Matt Roberts. Rich McNeal and Jerry Lbdell Jr. rounded out the top five. Rich Green continued his winning ways in the 20 lap Street Stock feature. Green started sixth on the field and spent the early stages of the event driving his way into contention as Lance Albanese led the early stages of the event. Green methodically picked his way to the front of the field, driving past Albanese to take the lead on lap nine. Brenton Miller tried to make a late run at Green as he also worked past Albanese, but was not able to close the gap on Green, who drove to victory over Miller and Albanese. Earl Zimmer finished fourth with Scott Smith fifth in the final rundown. Grayson Albanese drove to victory in the Junkyard Dogs feature, his second win of the season. Albanese came out on top of a three way battle at the head of the field with Bill Leonard and Buck Mills Jr. challenging all the way to the finish. Leonard would finish second trailed by Mills, Derrick Symonds, and Bob Lovine. Nick Greist won his fifth Junkyard Pups feature of the season, turning back a strong challenge from Bobby Wagner to earn the win. Wagner finished second ahead of defending track champion Phil Burns. Eventual winner Conover narrowly escaped disaster on the second lap as Brian White spun, collecting several other cars. Conover made contact but was able to continue on with sheet metal damage and some bent radius rods in the left front. Nye continued to lead the event as Kevin Jordan and Conover were on the move, advancing to second and third place. As the race neared the halfway point, Conover was the man on the move as he drove past Jordan for second on la 12, then completed his charge to the front a lap later as he made a nice high side move to wrest the lead from Nye. A final caution on the 18th circuit bunched the field for the final run to the checkered flag. Conover controlled the restart and would lead the remainder of the distance to earn his second victory of the season. Ryan Jordan slipped past Nye on the final lap to claim the runner-up position with Nye settling for a strong third place finish. Current point leader Tom Collins finished fourth with Kevin Jordan rounding out the top five finishers. Cook then had to hold off a late charge by Mike Smith to pick up the win with Smith finishing a close second. Early leader Lobdell finished third ahead of Rich McNeal and Chris Fleming. Rich Green continued his winning ways in the 20 lap Street Stock feature. Green started seventh on the field and spent the early stages of the event driving his way into contention as Scott Smith led the early stages of the event. Green was able to work past Fowlson into the lead after some hard side by side racing action. The later stages of the event saw Earl Zimmer make a late charge at Green, but Zimmer would run out of laps with Green running his win total to four. Zimmer finished second with Fowlston third. Brenton Miller and Gene Sharpsteen were fourth and fifth respectively. Buck Mills Jr. recorded his fourth triumph of the season as he drove to victory in the 20 lap Junkyard Dogs feature event. Buck led the final seven laps to earn the win. Dan Freelove made a late run at Mills before settling for a runner-up finish. Derrick Symonds finished third ahead of Cyrus Homer, who was making his first start of the season. Cody Brown rounded out the top five. Zack Tracy was the highest finishing Empire Sport Truck, earning him his third win. Nick Greist won his fourth Junkyard Pups feature of the season, besting a strong running Eric Boynton, who earned a career best runner-up finish aboard the Trevor Dudley #2D. Eventual winner Morse started the event in third and wasted little time in driving his way past Nye to take over the runner-up position and then grabbing the top spot from DeWitt on a lap three restart. Following that restart, a long green flag run saw Morse continuing to hang onto the top spot with Nye pressuring and a fast closing Tom Collins Jr. also driving his way into contention for the feature win. The racing would get even closer when the caution flag waved just four laps from the finish, setting up a four lap dash to the checkered flag. With the top cars now bunched tightly, Morse was up to the challenge as he executed a perfect restart to maintain the lead. Behind him, Collins was the man on the move as he slipped past Nye to take over the runner-up position. Collins was able to make things interesting over the final laps as he mounted a charge at Morse, but John was up to the challenge as a last lap charge by Collins came up just short as Morse flashed under the checkered flag to earn the win with Collins just behind in second. Scott Conover finished a strong third with Jim “Rocky” Rothwell crossing the line in fourth. Nick Nye completed the top five running order. The 20 lap IMCA Modified feature saw former track champion Kevan Cook break a long victory lane drought as he drove his Tracy’s Road Equipment sponsored entry to victory. Rich Green overcame a rocky start to the 20 lap Street Stock feature to charge his way back through the field to earn his second win of the season. Green started fourth on the grid, but found himself at the tail of the field following a third lap incident that saw Green involved in an incident with several other cars. Lanson Albanese grabbed the lead on the restart and was running strong at the head of the field as behind him Green was on the charge back through the field. Green’s charge back though the field was completed on a lap 14 restart as he passed Albanese to take over the lead. Green would go on to score the win while Albanese and Brenton Miller locked up in a tight battle for second. At the line, the runner-up position went to Albanese with Miller finishing third. Lou Gordonier and Darryl Krebs completed the top five running order. The 20 lap Junkyard Dogs feature event saw Todd Koegel come out on top of a torrid race-long battle with Grayson Albanese for the victory. Albanese finished second with Bill Flask third. Chuck Culbertson and Derrick Symonds were fourth and fifth respectively. Defending Young Pups champion Trevor Dudley won his first feature of the season in that division while Matt Johnson won his first of 2012 in the Empire Sport Trucks feature. On Saturday night, Conover showed that he was back in a big way as he led all 25 laps to score the feature win. All drivers walked away uninjured. In Street Stock action, Brenton Miller was awarded his second career feature win when Rich Karlnowski’s apparent victory was disallowed in post race inspection due to improper tires. Karlnowski arrived at the track late and started at the rear of the field. Rich charged his way through the field to grab the lead and drove away from the field over the closing laps. With Karlnowski’s disqualification, second place finisher Brenton Miller was awarded the win, his second of the season. Defending track champion Rich Green recovered from an early race incident to finish second. Lou Gordonier, Gene Sharpsteen, and Darryl Krebs finished third through fifth respectively. Buck Mills turned in a dominating drive in the 20 lap Junkyard Dogs feature as the second generation racer led all 20 laps to pick up the victory. Randy Brokaw came out on top of a hard fought Sportsman feature that saw the top four cars flash across the finish line in a tight pack that saw all four still with a chance to win exiting the fourth turn on the final lap. Mike Smith earned his first IMCA Modified win of the season while defending Street Stock champion Rich Green also won his first of 2012. Bill Leonard has been racing for nearly 30 years and on Saturday night he finally picked up that elusive first career feature win in the Junkyard Dogs class. Bobby Wagner won his first Junkyard Pups feature of the season with Timothy Vandermark scoring his second of the season in the Young Pups class. Mike Springstead won the Empire Sport Trucks feature, his first ever win at Skyline. Eventual winner Randy Brokaw and defending track champion Chris Stull paced the 18 car starting field to the green flag with Stull utilizing the outside groove to take over the early race lead. The battle up front was between Brokaw and Stull with Stull running the outside groove with Brokaw looking low in every turn. The two veteran drivers would spend the first half of the event running side by side in every turn as they fought hard for the lead. As the race neared the halfway point, Brokaw was able to work his way past Stull as the low groove was becoming the preferred line around the track. As Brokaw forged his way to the lead, Jim Rothwell was also becoming a player at the head of the field as he worked past Stull to run second as the race entered its closing stages. As the laps wound down, Brokaw was holding onto the lead by the narrowest of margins as the battle for the lead became a four way battle as Jim LaRock also drove his way into contention. Brokaw was running the inside groove to perfection to hold off Rothwell, who repeatedly looked to the inside of Brokaw , but Randy never opened up the door enough for Rothwell to get underneath. The four exited the fourth turn on the final lap spread out across he wide, fast Skyline racing surface with Brokaw getting to the line first to pick up the win. Rothwell narrowly hung onto second as Stull made a big run off the final turn but fell just short to finish third behind Rothwell. LaRock crossed the line fourth with Tom Collins completing the top five running order in a thrilling race. In the 20 lap IMCA Modified feature, Arkport, NY’s Mike Smith drove to a convincing feature win. Smith charged from his ninth starting position to take the lead from Jerry Lobdell on the twelfth lap. Over the closing laps, Smith, Lobdell, and Mark Griffin locked up in a tight battle at the lead of the field. Smith was able to hold off his challengers to pick up his first win of 2012. Lobdell just managed to nose out Griffin for second with Griffin third. Opening night winner and defending track champion Chris Fleming finished fourth as Mike Wilbur rounded out the top five finishing positions. Defending Street Stock track champion Rich Green drove to his first Skyline win of the season in the 20 lap Pure Stock feature. Green had to overcome some misfortune to win, as a first lap incident sent Green pitside with a flat front tire. Restarting from the rear, Green methodically picked his way through the field to drive his way back into contention. Rick took over the lead on the 13th lap when race leader Jake Fowlston lost power on a restart, bottling up the field. Green was able to take evasive action to get around the resulting jam-up to emerge with the race lead. Over the final laps, Green had to contend with a challenge from opening night winner Brenton Miller. Green was up to the challenge to bring his Boynton Motorsports owned entry home with the win. Miller settled for a hard fought runner-up finish. Lou Gordonier, Scott Smith, and Darryl Krebs finished third through fifth. The Junkyard Dogs feature saw a new face in victory lane as Bill Leonard earned his first career feature win in a racing career that has spanned nearly three decades. Leonard dove past early race leader Derrick Symonds on the third lap then held off a late charge from Dan Freelove to score the popular victory with Freelove coming home second. Veteran Bill Flask finished third with Grayson Albenese and Derrick Symonds completing the top five. Bobby Wagner drove his Acura Integra to his first win of the season in the 15 lap Junkyard Pups feature win. Scott Forward finished third with Brett Stevens and Lee Wagner fourth and fifth respectively. Mike Springstead earned his first ever Skyline Raceway victory in the Empire Sport Truck feature event. Springstead took advantage of a pole starting position to grab the lead at the drop of the green flag. Mike led all ten laps to score the win over opening night winner Zack Tracy, Dan Rogers, and Matt Johnson. Tim Vandermark earned his second victory of the season in Young Pups action, holding off a determined challenge from Trevor Dudley, who earned a solid runner-up finish. Isaiah Forward finished third with Eric Rowley coming home fourth. The Silver Anniversary Celebration continues this Saturday night with another big six division racing card featuring all of Skyline’s regular racing divisions. Fans with children should plan to come out early this Saturday night as there will be kiddie rides prior to the start of racing action. Defending IMCA Modified Track Champion Kevin Fleming kicked off his title defense with an opening night feature win while Brenton Miller scored an emotional victory in the Street Stock division. Buck Mills Jr. outraced Todd Koegel to earn the Junkyard Dogs feature win with Zack Tracy kicking off the Empire Sport Trucks season with a feature win. Nick Greist won the Junkyard pups feature event with Tim Vandermark scoring the opening night win in the Young pups division. With the opening night feature line-up set via the luck of the draw, eventual winner Kevin Jordan and defending track champion Chris Stull paced the field to the green flag. The early stages of the event saw a spirited battle at the head of the field between the two veteran drivers as they battled hard for the race lead. The tight racing got a little too close on the ninth circuit as the two made contact racing into the first turn resulting in Stull being eliminated from the event and Jordan restarting the event from the tail. When racing resumed, the battle for the lead was now between John Morse and Kenny Hammond. Morse was able to maintain his position at the head of the field but was under heavy pressure from Hammond as the two put on a show for the Skyline fans. Behind them, Jordan was the man on the move as he was able to race his way back into the top five and set his sights on the leaders. A late race caution flag for a tangle involving Scott Conover and Ryan Jordan set up a final dash to the checkered flag. When racing resumed, Kevin Jordan was a man on a mission as he worked past both Hammond and Morse to complete his charge back through the field to reassume the lead. Once out front, the Speedsville, NY veteran led the remainder of the way to take the checkered flag aboard his Ken Brewer Construction sponsored entry. The battle between Morse and Hammond continued all the way to the checkered flag with Morse hanging on to claim the second position by a narrow margin over Hammond. Jim LaRock and Nick Nye completed the top five finishing order. The 20 lap IMCA Modified feature got off to a slow start as a series of early incidents interrupted the racing action. The first of those incidents saw eventual winner Chris Fleming get turned around on the backstretch, and the second incident saw Mike Smith come to a stop against the fourth turn wall. Despite the early incidents, both Smith and Fleming would race their way back through the field to battle for the victory over the closing laps of the event. Fleming was able to make his way back to the front first and then held off a determined charge by Smith as the laps wound down. As the checkered flag waved, Fleming scored the win by a narrow margin over Smith. Mark Griffin finished third with Jerry Lobdell and Brandon Carvey completing the top five. In Street Stock action, Brenton Miller drove to an emotional feature win in a pick-up ride to score the win. In victory lane, a tearful Miller and his crew dedicated the victory to Miller’s father, who passed away just six days previous. Miller’s win came in improbable fashion as Miller’s regular mount suffered terminal engine problems during qualifying action. The team made a quick call and made arrangements to drive Butch Green’s #56D for the feature, the car arriving at the speedway just prior to the start of the event. Starting from the rear, Miller was a man on a mission from the drop of the green flag as he charged his way through the field in the unfamiliar car. Miller’s charge to the front was completed on a restart with just three laps remaining as he powered past race leader Rich Green to take over the lead. Miller led the final three laps to score the win over Green. Jake Fowlston drove to a third place finish ahead of Louie Gordonier and Gene Sharpsteen. Buck Mills Jr. earned the opening night Junkyard Dogs feature win, holding off a determined challenge from Todd Koegel to pick up the win. The two battled hard over the closing laps with Mills able to keep Koegel behind him to score the win with Koegel second. Chuck Culbertson, Billy Leonard, and Tyrone Scott were third through fifth. Zack Tracy was the highest finishing Empire Sport Truck entry to earn the opening night win in that class. Nick Greist came out on top of a racelong battle wit Bobby Wagner to score the opening night feature win over Warner. Keith Potter finished third with Eric Boynton fourth ahead of Matt Tripp. The Young Pups feature saw Timothy Vandermark earn the opening night feature win, besting Trevor Dudley for the top spot. Dudley finished second with Eric Rowley third. Isiah Forward and Dylan Thompson were fourth and fifth in the final running order. The Silver Anniversary Celebration continues this Saturday night with another big six division racing card featuring all of Skyline’s regular racing divisions. Sept. 17th, 2011 MIKE SMITH EARNS $1000.00 TO CLOSE OUT SKYLINE RACEWAY SEASON WITH TURBO BLUE IMCA MODIFIED VICTORY -Chris Stull, Butch Green, George Brown, Nick Greist, Rich Wagner All Earn Victories At The Turbo The Skyline Raceway closed out their 2011 racing season last Saturday night with the 24th annual running of the Turbo Blue Finale. Chris Stull put an exclamation pint on his championship season as he drove to victory in the 30 lap Sportsman feature event. Mike Smith collected the $1,000 top prize in the Pistol Chassis sponsored IMCA Modified feature. Butch Green drove to his first Skyline Raceway feature win of the season in the Street Stock division. George Brown scored a thrilling victory in the Junkyard Dogs with Richard Wagner earning his first Empire Sport Truck feature. Nick Greist closed out the 2011 season with a win in the Junkyard Pups division. With the 24 car strong starting line-up set by the luck of the draw, Jim Rothwell and James Cornell pace the field to the final green flag of 2011 to start the 30 lap event. Rothwell grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag and would lead the first two laps before third starting Chris Stull made his presence known, taking the top spot on the third circuit as the two veterans raced side by side down the backstretch. With Stull now leading the event, the race was on behind him as Rothwell came under pressure for the second spot from Kevin Jordan and Ryan Jordan. That battle for the runner-up position was the best battle on the track as the race crossed the halfway point with Stull in control of the event. Both Kevin and Ryan Jordan were able to work past Rothwell for second and third as the three put on a show of hard, clean racing for the Skyline fans. Mechanical misfortunes would cost Ryan Jordan a top three position as he slowed on the backstretch and retired from the event. Over the closing laps, Kevin Jordan was able to close the gap on Stull a bit, but Chris was too strong and flashed under the checkered flag to pick up the win over Jordan. Early leader Jim Rothwell hung on to finish third with James Cornell fourth. Wade Decker completed the top five finishing order. A full field of IMCA Modifieds also answered the call to the post for their 40 lap season finale event which was sponsored by Pistol Racing Chassis. The line-up for the final IMCA Modified feature of the season was set via a blind draw which put Mike Smith on the pole flaked by Mike Wilmot. Smith grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag with third starting Jerry Lobdell working past Wilmot into the runner-up position. Several early caution flags kept the field bunched tightly, but on each restart Smith was able to re-establish himself as the race leader with Lobdell continuing to be a persistent challenger. The two Skyline Raceway regulars would spend the entire 40 lap distance at the head of the field. Over the closing laps, Lobdell made a final run at Smith, pulling alongside of Mike several times, but was never able to quite complete the pass. Smith went on to score the win by a narrow margin over Lobdell. Kevan Cook finished third ahead of Gary Smith and Keystone State invader Eddie Sites. The 20 lap Street Stock feature saw Butch Green drive to his first win of the season at the Skyline Raceway. Green started the event back in the 11th starting position but wasted little time in making his way to the front of the field. A couple of early cautions kept the field bunched up and Green was able to take full advantage, moving into the runner-up position behind race leader Chris Fisher by the time the race reached the halfway point. The second half of the event saw an intense three way battle at the head of the field as Green, Fisher, and Gene Sharpsteen all battled for the lead and the victory. After several laps of side by side racing, Green completed the winning pass on the 17th lap, slipping past Fisher. Once out front, Green led the final eight circuits to earn the win. Fisher and Sharpsteen raced side by side off the fourth turn on the final lap with Fisher just nosing out Sharpsteen for second with Gene settling for third. Jason Rhodes and Brent Miller finished fourth and fifth. George Brown earned his first Skyline Raceway victory in the 20 lap Junkyard Dogs feature event. Brown and newly crowned Skyline Raceway track champion Todd Koegel raced each other hard the entire distance with some incredible racing between the to. The final turn of the race saw Koegel grab the lead with a well executed slide job. Koegel’s momentum carried him up the track, allowing Brown the opportunity to pull crossover move and duck back under Koegel. The two raced side by side off the final turn with Brown just managing to beat Koegel back to the line for the win. Koegel finished second and ran from his car to Brown’s in victory lane to offer congratulations. Howie Koegel finished third with Grayson Albanese fourth. Jake Fowlston finished fifth. Richard Wagner Jr.’s 13th place finish was the best among the Empire Sport Truck contingent, earning him his first career Empire Sport Truck victory. Nick Greist closed out the Junkyard Pups season with a feature win in their 20 lap feature event. Grest held off a determined challenge from Dave Smith over the closing laps to score the win. Keith Potter finished third with Clem Underwood and Don Sinn rounding out the top five. The 2011 racing season is now complete at the Skyline Raceway. Gene Sharpsteen earned his third Street Stock victory of the season as the Street Stock championship was also decided as Rich Green hung on to score the championship by a scant four point margin over Brent Miller. Jerry Lobdell topped the IMCA Modified division with Todd Koegel running his win total to eleven in the Junkyard Dogs class. Newly crowned champion Phil Burns celebrated his Junkyard Pups title by earning his third feature win. Timothy Vandermark topped the Young Pups division for the fifth time while Nick Greist came out on top of the Junkyard Pups elimination race. Bobby Heintz and Ken Hammond brought the Sportsman field to the green flag with Hammond working past Heintz early in the event to establish himself as the race leader aboard his Hunts Auto Service sponsored entry. As Hammond established himself as the race leader, behind him the battle was on for second as Chris Stull was on the move, advancing quickly to move into a contending position. Stull was able to work past Hammond on the seventh lap to take over the race lead with Hammond, Kevin Jordan, Brian White, and John Morse all battling within the top five. Stull appeared to be in control of the event until a lap 15 caution flag bunched up the field. On the restart, Hammond got the drop on Stull to retake the point lead as it was becoming apparent that Stull was having problems as he began to fade from the top five. The reason would become apparent a few laps later as Stull retired from the event a few laps later with a flat right rear tire. With Hammond now firmly in control of the event he would lead the rest of the way to score a popular first time feature win. Behind Hammond, John Morse was strong, driving to a season’s best runner-up finish. Brian White slipped past Kevin Jordan on the final lap to finish third with Jordan crossing the line fourth. Randy Shantel rounded out the top five finishing order. Despite dropping from the event, Chris Stull locked up the 2011 Sportsman championship with his 14th place finish. The IMCA Modified division took part in a special non-point event as several of Skyline’s top teams were not in attendance as they were participating in the IMCA Super Nationals in Boone, Iowa for the weekend. As they have done all season, the IMCA Modifieds put on a show for the Skyline fans as Jerry Lobdell and track champion Chris Fleming locked up in a race-long battle. Lobdell got to the point early, but was under heavy pressure from Fleming over the second half of the event. Lobdell found the high side of the speedway to his liking with Fleming looking low in every corner. Fleming was able to pull alongside Lobdell several times, but each time Lobdell was able to utilize the momentum he built up running the top of the speedway to hang onto the lead. A final challenge off the final turn by Fleming fell just short as Lobdell took the checkered flag by a narrow margin over Fleming. Bump Scutt finished third with Glen Erwin fourth in his first Skyline appearance of the season. Joe Miles finished fifth, his first top five of 2011 since returning late in the season. Gene Sharpsteen took advantage of a third place starting position to earn his third Street Stock victory of 2011. Sharpsteen drove to the lead early on, then survived a determined challenge from Scott Smith to earn the victory. Smith threw everything he had at Sharpsteen before settling for a strong second place run. Earl Zimmer finished third trailed by Brent Miller and Buck Mills. Rich Green drove to an eighth place finish to earn the 2011 Street Stock championship by four points over Brent Miller. Green’s championship season was notable in that he earned points in five different cars during the season. In Junkyard Dogs action, Todd Koegel ran his win total to eleven in 2011 as the division’s champion utilized a late race pass of Chuck Culbertson to secure the victory. Culbertson was impressive in his first start of 2011, leading the majority of the event before settling for a strong runner-up finish. George Brown, Bill Leonard, and Dan Freelove rounded out the top five finishing order. Newly crowned Junkyard Pups champion Phil Burns celebrated his championship by racing to his third win of the season. Burns survived a last lap restart and a determined challenge from Nick Greist to secure the win. Greist settled for a solid runner-up finish with Rick Sinsabaugh finishing third. Keith Potter and Bobby Wagner were fourth and fifth respectively. Nick Greist came home the winner of the special elimination race that closed out the night’s racing action. Though Stull would lead the remainder of the event aboard his O’Shea Tire sponsored entry, he still faced a strong challenge from Jordan as Kevin kept the pressure on. Burns settled for a third place finish with Don Sinn and Chris Carman completing the top five. Twelve year old Timothy Vandermark, the youngest driver in the Junkyard Pups division, drove to his first career victory in their 10 lap feature event. Vandermark had to work for the win as multiple time winner Trevor Dudley pressured him all the way. Vandermark was up to the challenge, as he never faltered under the pressure to earn his first trip to victory lane. Dudley settled for a second place finish with Eric Rowley third. Despite the early race misfortune, Stull stormed back through the field to earn the win. JJ Courcy outdueled Mike Smith in an exciting IMCA Modified feature to earn his first win of the season, snapping Smith’s five race winning streak. Gene Sharpsteen won his second Street Stock feature event of the season. Dan Freelove was a first time winner in the Junkyard Dogs division with Steve Argus earning the Empire Sport Trucks victory. Bobby Wagner came out on top of the Junkyard Pus division and Eric Rowley took the Young Pus feature event. The 25 lap Sportsman division feature came to the green flag with polesetter Bobby Heintz grabbing the lead at the drop of the green flag. Just three laps into the event, traffic bottled up which resulted in eventual winner Chris Stull spinning and getting tagged by Ray Taylor. Stull would rejoin at the rear of the field with Heintz continuing to lead but facing a strong challenge from Randy Shantel and Ryan Jordan. Both Shantel and Jordan worked past Heintz with Shantel leading briefly before surrendering the lead to Jordan. As the race neared the halfway point, Stull was becoming a player again as he had recovered nicely to run third. Stull’s methodical charge continued as he slipped past Shantel to take second, then work past Jordan into the lead a couple of laps later. A caution flag just six laps from the finish for a spinning Wade Morse bunched the field for a final run to the checkered flag. Stull controlled the restart and drove away from the pack to earn the win. Behind him, Ken Hammond made a late charge to take the runner-up position with a late pass of Jordan to earn that position. Jordan hung on to finish third ahead of Shantel and Randy Brokaw. The 20 lap IMCA Modified feature came down to a battle for the win between JJ Courcy and Mike Smith, who came into Saturday night riding a five week winning streak in IMCA Modified action at Skyline. The two veteran drivers put on a show for the Skyline fans at they battled for the top spot. Courcy got to the front first and was running in the preferred outside groove, forcing Smith to work the bottom as he tried to make the winning pass. The two battled side by side for most of the second half of the event with Smith looking low in every turn, but never able to get enough of a run off the bottom to complete the pass. Courcy hung on all the way to the checkered flag to earn his first Skyline victory of the season by a narrow margin over Smith. Kevan Cook finished third trailed by Chris Fleming and Josh VanTassel. In Street Stock action, Gene Sharpsteen drove to his second feature event win of 2011. Sharpsteen took the lead from Brent Miller just past the halfway point, then held off a late run by Jake Fowlston to earn the win. Fowlston’s second place finish was his best of the season to date. Scott Smith fiished third ahead of Brent Miller and Daryl Krebs. Dan Freelove came out on top of a caution plagued Junkyard Dogs feature to record his first victory of the 2011 campaign. Freelove had to work for the win as he was under heavy pressure from Todd Koegel over the closing laps to earn the victory. A series of late caution flags kept the field bunched up, but Freelove was up to the challenge, holding off a determined challenge from Koegel to earn the win. Shawn Rose finished third with Derek Simmons and Katie Smith completing the top five. Steve Argus finished sixth overall, tops among the Empire Sport Trucks contingent to be declared the Empire Sport Tucks feature winner. Bobby Wagner won his second consecutive Junkyard Pups feature, inheriting the lead when race leader Phil Burns was forced to retire from the event with mechanical issues. Once in the lead, Wagner had to hold off a late charge from Nick Greist over the closing laps. Greist finished a solid second with Nick Seiter earning a season’s best third place finish. Don Sinn finished fourth with a returning Chris Carman fifth. Eric Rowley earned his second consecutive Young Pups feature win. Despite a deflating right front tire, Rowley was still able to hold off the challenges of Trevor Dudley and Timothy Vandermark to score the win. Dudley raced to a runner-up finish with Vadermark third. Isiah Forward and Timothy Filkins completed the top five. Racing action continues this Saturday night with a full night of racing action. Stull came out on top of a side by side battle with Ryan Jordan as the two raced the final five laps of the feature event side by side with Stull just beating out Jordan at the checkered flag. Mike Smith topped Jerry Lobdell in another exciting IMCA Modified feature to earn his fifth straight feature win. Daryl Krebs won his first Street Stock feature of the season. Buck Mills earned his first Junkyard Dogs feature win of 2011 with Dan Wood finishing fifth overall to be declared the Empire Sport Trucks winner. Bobby Wagner topped the Junkyard Pups division and Eric Rowley was the Young Pups winner. Bobby Heintz and Ken Hammond brought the Sportsman feature to the green flag to begin their 25 lap feature event. Heintz grabbed the top spot as the green flag waved as behind him Kevin Jordan, Ray Taylor, and Ryan Jordan battled for the runner-up position. Kevin Jordan’s strong run ended on the tenth lap as he slowed to a stop. On the ensuing restart, Ryan Jordan moved to the head of the pack as he worked past Heintz into the lead. Behind Jordan, a new challenger was working his way into the picture as eventual winner Stull was making one of his patented charges on the high side of the speedway. As the race passed the halfway point, the battle for the win was on as Stull utilized the high groove to advance on Jordan with Ryan working the low groove. The two spent the majority of the second half of the race battling side by side for the victory as they put on a tremendous show of side by side racing. This battle raged all the way to the checkered flag as both raced hard but clean with no contact despite the many laps of sustained side by side racing. Stull was able to get a big run off the final turn to just nose out Jordan as the two flashed across the finish line. Stull took the hard fought victory by a narrow margin over Jordan. Randy Shantel finished a strong third ahead of veteran Ray Taylor. Randy Brokaw charged from the scratch starting position to finish fifth. Mike Smith ran his winning streak to five in the 20 lap IMCA Modified feature event. Bump Scutt grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag and led the first half of the event before surrendering the lead to Jerry Lobdell as he and eventual winner Smith were both able to work past Scutt. Over the second half of the event, Lobdell and Smith locked up in a tight battle with Smith working the low groove of the speedway, repeatedly looking low on Lobdell. Lapped traffic would prove to be the decisive factor in this event as a lapped car momentarily impeded Lobdell’s progress, opening the door for Smith. Mike took advantage of the break to slip past and into the lead. Smith held off Lobdell over the final three laps , earning the victory as well as the $100 bonus offered for sweeping the weekend’s activity at Black Rock and Skyline. Lobdell drove to a solid runner-up finish with Scutt finishing a strong third. Kevan Cook and Chris Fleming were fourth and fifth respectively. Daryl Krebs drove to his first victory of the season in the 20 lap Street stock feature. Krebs inherited the lead on the 15th lap when Rich Talada and Rich Green tangled while racing for the lead. This would prove to be the only break Krebs would need as he led the final five circuits to score the win. Green and Talada recovered from their incident to finish second and third respectively. John Cooper Jr. was fourth with Brenton Miller completing the top five finishing order. Buck Mills Jr. drove to his first victory of the season in the Junkyard Dogs feature event. Mills held off a determined challenge from Todd Koegel over the closing laps of the event to secure the win. Koegel threw everything he had at Mills, but Mills was up to the challenge as he was able to keep Koegel behind him the entire distance. Koegel settled for a runner-up finish with Dan Freelove finishing third. Kevin Giangarra finished fourth with Dan Wood fifth. Wood’s fifth place finish was the best among the Empire Sport Trucks entries, earning him the victory in that class. Bobby Wagner drove to victory in the 15 lap Junkyard Pups feature event. Wagner passed Ashley Jones for the top spot on lap four, then held off a late charge by Keith Potter to earn the win. Potter finished second ahead of Nick Greist, Don Sinn, and Ashley Jones.
Eric Rowley outraced Timothy Vandermark to earn the victory in the Young Pups feature event. Vandermark finished a strong second trailed by Trevor Dudley, Timothy Filkins, and newcomer Kerrie Jones. Racing action continues this Saturday night with a full night of racing action. All of Skyline’s weekly divisions will be in action including the Sportsman, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, Junkyard Dogs, Empire Sport Trucks, Junkyard Pups, and Young Pups. RYAN JORDAN CAPUTRES $1,000 SPORTSMAN VICOTRY AT SKYLINE Ryan Jordan made his first victory of the season at the Skyline Raceway a big one as he drove to victory in the 25 lap Hunt’s Auto Service Bonus Night Sportsman feature, pocketing a cool grand for his efforts. Mike Smith ran his winning streak to four in IMCA Modified action while Rich Green continued his domination of the Street Stock division with his ninth win of the season. Larry Rowley came out on top of the Junkyard Dogs feature with Dan Wood picking up the Empire Sport Trucks win. Nick Greist won his first Junkyard Pups feature of the season while Trevor Dudley won his fourth consecutive Young Pups feature. The 25 lap Sportsman feature saw Ryan Jordan and Ray Taylor pace the field to the green flag with Jordan grabbing the lead right at the start of the event. The race quickly developed into a Jordan family duel as Kevin Jordan worked his way quickly from his seventh starting position to work his way around Taylor and set his sights on his nephew, who was utilizing the low groove of the speedway. Kevin was able to close in on Ryan, pressuring the youngster. Ryan was up to the challenge as he was running solidly in the low groove and continued to hit his marks lap after lap despite the pressure from behind. Kevin pressured Ryan all the way, but could never find a way past and settled for a runner-up finish. Ray Taylor crossed the line third ahead of Randy Shantel and Jim Rothwell. Mike Smith won his fourth consecutive IMCA Modified feature. Bump Scutt led the early stages of the event before surrendering the top spot to Smith on the sixth circuit. Chris Fleming worked past Scutt just before the halfway point and set his sights on Smith. The two veterans of the IMCA Modified division spent the second half of the event locked in a battle for the win. With Smith utilizing the high side of the speedway, Fleming went to the bottom. Several times, Chris was able to pull alongside Smith, but was never able to complete the pass as Mike was able to utilize the momentum in the high groove to retake the lead exiting the turns. The two would duel all the way to the finish with Smith taking the win over Fleming. Bump Scutt’s third place finish was his best of the season with Josh VanTassell and Rich McNeal fourth and fifth. Rich Green’s dream season continued on Saturday night as he drove to his ninth victory of the season in Street Stock action. Green had to work for the win, however, as he and Rich Talada spent several laps racing side by side for the top spot as the two veteran drivers battled for the win. Unfortunately for Talada, his hard luck 2011 season continued as clutch problems forced him to retire from the event, turning the lead over to Green for good. Late in the event, Gene Sharpsteen made a run at Green, but ran out of time and had to settle for the runner-up position behind Green. Current Race of Champions Street Stock Tour point leader Brent Miller finished third with John Cooper Jr. and Daryl Krebs fourth and fifth respectively. In Junkyard Dogs action, Larry Rowley earned the feature win with a late race pass of Todd Koegel to take over the top spot. Rowley then led the final three laps to secure the victory. Koegel finished second with early race leader Buck Mills Jr. finishing third. Dan Freelove finished fourth with Kevin Giangarra completing the top five finishing order. Dan Wood finished sixth overall to earn the Empire Sport Truck win as the truck field grew to four this week. Nick Greist picked up his first win of the season in the Junkyard Pups division. Greist, a recent addition to the Skyline field as the driver of the Beezer Wilke owned #107, outraced Bobby Edwards as the two veterans of the Junkyard Pups division spent the majority of the event battling side by side for the win. Greist ultimately prevailed with Edwards settling for second. Bobby Wagner finished third with Keith Potter and Clem Underwood completing the top five. Trevor Dudley earned his fourth consecutive win in Young Pups action. Dudley came out on top of a racelong battle with Timothy Vandermark, who finished second. Eric Rowley finished third with Timothy Filkins and Dylan Thompson completing the top five. Dudley was awarded his first half championship trophy in victory lane. The Young Pups division points reset to zero after last week’s action as the quest for the second half championship is now underway. Racing action continues this Saturday night with

June 25th 2011 For a while it appeared that Saturday night’s racing card at the Skyline Raceway was in jeopardy of falling to the weather as heavy rains passed through the area during heat race action. After a significant break to dry the racing surface, racing action resumed after a 90 minute delay. Chris Stull rode the high side around the speedway to capture his fourth win of the season in the Hunt’s Auto Sportsman division. Mike Smith ran his winning streak to three in IMCA Modified action and Rich Green utilized a last lap pass to earn his eighth win of the season. Todd Koegel was the Junkyard Dogs winner with Steve Argus winning his first Empire Sport Trucks feature. Keith Potter won his first Junkyard Pups feature while Trevor Dudley won his third consecutive Young Pups feature. The rain that fell added plenty of moisture to the racing surface, making for plenty of side by side racing as the drivers utilized all of the racing surface, racing two and three wide all night. Despite the tight racing, only five caution flags waved during all of the feature racing action. The early stages of the 25 lap Sportsman feature saw plenty of tree wide racing action as Ray Taylor, Jon Carpenter, and Billy Shantel got locked up in a three way battle for the top spot. The three spent most of the first ten laps battling for the lead as behind them eventual winner Stull broke into the top five for the first time on the tenth circuit. As the race crossed the halfway point, it had become a five car battle for the lead as Stull and Jim Rothwell joined the battle. The top five drivers put on a show for the fans who stuck out the rain delay, with plenty of hard racing as they swapped lanes and positions on every lap. Unfortunately for Carpenter, his race would end early as he came to a stop on the backstretch with steam belching from under the hood of his machine. This would be the only caution flag of the race and it bunched the field up for a run to the finish. On the restart, Stull went to the high side of the speedway to make his way to the front. He made the winning pass on the 18th circuit in dramatic fashion as he swept around the outside of Taylor, Rothwell, and Shantel in the first and second turns to move from fourth to the lead in only a single set of turns. Once out front, Stull led the remaining laps to earn the win, his fourth of the season. Rothwell and Taylor battled all the way to the checkered flag with Rothwell just managing to hold off Taylor for the runner-up position. Taylor finished third with Kevin Jordan recovering from a mid-race incident to finish fourth with Shantel completing the top five finishing order. The IMCA Modifieds ran off a non-stop 20 lap feature event that showcased the level of competition in the division as for most of the 20 laps there was side by side racing at the head of the field with the final outcome very much in doubt all the way until the checkered flag waved. Mike Smith earned a hard fought feature win as he, JJ Courcy, and Jerry Lobdell spent the entire 20 lap distance locked in a three way battle at the head of the field. The three veterans of the IMCA Modified wars at Skyline certainly showcased the division well as they went at it for 20 laps with plenty of hard racing that saw only minor incidental contact between the three as they raced on the ragged edge for 20 laps. As they crossed the line, it was Smith running his winning streak to three as he managed to hang onto the lead despite heavy pressure from two strong challengers. Courcy earned the runner-up finish with Lobdell crossing the line in third. All three received a nice ovation from the Skyline fans for the show they put on. Chris Fleming and Josh VanTassell completed the top five. Rich Green utilized some last lap heroics to earn his eighth win of the season in the 20 lap Street Stock feature event. Scott Smith led the majority of the event and appeared to be on his way to his first win of the season, however a late race caution flag erased his big lead and put Green right on his rear bumper. Smith held Green off for several laps as Green’s machine was showing some smoke from the rear of the car. Despite the smoke, Green was able to get a run to the inside of Smith exiting the fourth turn on the final circuit. The two raced side by side down the front stretch with Green just nosing out Smith at the flag to secure the win. Smith settled for a season’s best runner-up finish with Rich Talada finishing third. John Cooper Jr. and Daryl Krebs were fourth and fifth respectively. The Junkyard Dogs feature win was awarded to Todd Koegel after apparent race winner Larry Rowley failed post race technical inspection and was disqualified. This awarded the win to Koegel, his second consecutive feature win. Buck Mills Jr. finished second trailed by Tyrone Scott, Katie Smith, and Carey Barber. Keith Potter earned his first win of 2011 in the Junkyard Pups division. Potter started fourth and took over the top spot from Lee Wagner on the second lap. Potter would lead the remainder of the distance, holding off a determined challenge from eventual runner-up Don Sinn over the closing laps. Nick Greist finished third ahead of Lee Wagner and Jimmy Neff. Trevor Dudley earned his third consecutive win in Young Pups action. Dudley bested Eric Rowley for the win and the first half division championship. Rowley finished second trailed by Tim Filkins and Timothy Vandermark. Racing action continues this Saturday night with a full night of racing action. It will be the third Hunt’s Auto Center Sportsman Bonus night with all Sportsman teams who were in competition on Saturday night racing for $1,000 to win courtesy of Hunt’s Auto Center. The IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, Junkyard Dogs, Empire Sport Trucks, Junkyard Pups, and Young Pups will all be in action in a full card of racing action . June 18, 2011 After a week off due to rain, racing returned to the Skyline Raceway last Saturday night. Opeing night feature winner Randy Brokaw returned to victory lane for the second time in 2011. Mike Smith won his second consecutive IMCA Modified feature with Rich Talada earning his first Street Stock victory of the season. Todd Koegel topped the Junkyard Dog class with Dan Wood earning the Empire Sport Truck victory. Bobby Wagner won his fourth consecutive Junkyard Pups victory with Trevor Dudley winning his fourth Young Pups feature. A couple of weeks of misfortune found eventual winner Randy Brokaw handicapped to the front row for the start of the 25 lap Sportsman division feature event. Brokaw grabbed the lead at the start of the event with Brad Alger holding down the runner-up position. With the first 20 laps of the feature event running off without a caution flag there was plenty of racing action through the pack. Kevin Jordan made his presence known early as he worked past Alger and set his sights on Brokaw. The middle stages of the event featured a battle for the lead as Jordan closed in on Brokaw and began to pressure Randy for the top spot. Several time, Jordan was able to get the front wheels underneath Brokaw in the turns, but each time Randy was able to hold off the challenge. By the time the race’s only caution flag waved for a disabled car coming to a stop on the backstretch, Chris Stull had joined the battle at the head of the field. The final five laps of the event featured a three way battle for the win. Brokaw was up to the challenge as he managed to keep both Jordan and Stull behind him as he drove under the checkered flag to core the win, his first since the opening night of the season. Jordan held of Stull to finish second with Stull third. Brad Alger hung on to finish fourth with Ken Hammond completing the top five finishing order. The early stages of the IMCA Modified feature saw a tight battle for the top spot as Bump Scutt grabbed the early lead from his outside pole starting position. A couple of early caution flags kept the field bunched up tightly and Scutt soon found himself facing a challenge from eventual winner Mike Smith. The two spent several laps racing side by side before Smith was able to utilize the low groove of the speedway to complete the pass on the seventh lap. Though he had the lead, Smith was far from home free as some new challengers were soon right with Smith as by the halfway point the race for the win came down to a three way battle between Smith, Chris Fleming, and JJ Courcy. The three veterans of the IMCA Modified division spent the second half of the race battling for the top spot. Smith ultimately came out on top after many laps of hard racing to score the win over Fleming and Courcy. Pete Neff finished fourth with Rich McNeal overcoming an early race incident to finish fifth. In Street Stock action, Rich Talada drove to his first feature win of the 2011 season. John Cooper Jr. grabbed the early lead and held the top spot for the first four laps before surrendering the top spot to Talada. The second half of the event saw an exciting two car battle for the top spot as Talada was under heavy pressure from Gene Sharpsteen. Seven time winner Rich Green made it a three car battle, but his challenge ended with a mechanical failure on the 15th circuit. This left Sharpsteen to challenge Talada. Gene pressured Rich all the way, but Talada was up to the challenge as he kept Sharpsteen at bay all the way to score the win over Sharpsteen. Brent Miller finished third with Scott Smith fourth. Kevin Boynton rounded out the top five finishing order. The Junkyard Dogs feature came down to a two car battle between Todd Koegel and Larry Rowley. The two drivers who have dominated the division thus far in 2011 battled hard for the win with Koegel managing to hold off Rowley to earn the victory. Rowley settled for a runner-up finish with Dan Freelove finishing third. Katie Smith and Buck Mills Jr. were fourth and fifth respectively. Dan Woods finished sixth over all, the highest finishing Empire Sport Trucks entry, earning him the EST victory. Bobby Wagner capitalized on a late restart to grab the lead and drive on to his fourth consecutive Junkyard Pups feature win. Don Sinn drove to a season’s best runner-up finish trailed by Jimmy Neff, Keith Potter, and Phil Burns. Trevor Dudley passed Tim Filkins for the lead just prior to the halfway point of the Young Pups feature, then held off a hard charging Timothy Vandermark over the closing laps to win his fourth Young Pups feature event. Vandermark finished second trailed by Filkins, Dylan Thompson, and Eric Rowley. Racing action continues this Saturday night with a full night of racing action. The Hunts Auto Service Sportsman, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, Junkyard Dogs, Empire Sport Trucks, Junkyard Pups, and Young Pups will all be in action in a full card of racing action . June 11th RAINED OUT
June 4,2011 When the big money is on the line at Skyline, it is a safe bet that Chris Stull will be somewhere around the front of the field. For the second time in 2011, Stull collected a $1000 paycheck by winning the Hunt’s Auto Service Sportsman Bonus race. Mike Smith returned to victory lane for the fourth time in 2011 in IMCA Modified action. Rich Green continued his domination of the Street Stock division, earning his seventh win of the season. Larry Rowley topped the Junkyard Dogs feature for the fourth time. Seventh place finisher Dan Wood was the highest finishing truck in the event and earned him the Empire Sport Truck win. Bobby Wagner won his fourth straight Junkyard Pups feature with Trevor Dudley topping the Young Pups feature for the third time. The Sportsman division ran off their feature event without the need for a caution flag as the Sportsman drivers put on a show for the Skyline fans. Randy Brokaw and Jon Carpenter paced the field to the green flag with Brokaw grabbing the lead at the drop of the green flag. The veteran would lead the first tree laps before mechanical problems cropped up and Brokaw pulled to the infield and retired from the event. This turned the lead over to Carpenter, who set the pace but was facing a strong challenge from Kenny Hammond. Hammond was able to slip past Carpenter on the tenth lap to take over the lead. Stull had also driven his way into contention to run second behind Hammond. As the race crossed the halfway point, Stull was putting heavy pressure on the back bumper of Hammond. The two veteran drivers put on an exciting display of side by side racing as they raced side by side for several laps. Stull was finally able to take the top spot on the 17th circuit as he was scored the race leader as the two raced side by side down the front stretch. Though Stull led the final eight laps, he was never able to shake Hammond, who pressured him all the way to the checkered flag. Stull earned the hard fought victory with Hammond finishing just behind. Kevin Jordan drove to a third place finish with Jim Rothwell and Ryan Jordan completing the top five. In IMCA Modified action, Mike Smith drove his Harris Race Cars/Smith Collision sponsored #96 to the feature win. Smith started the event in third and had the lead before the first lap went in the books. Though he led all 20 laps, it was far from an easy win for Smith. Some motor problems over the early part of the season found Smith coming to Skyline with a backup motor under the hood. Being somewhat underpowered, the veteran driver chose to run the high side of the speedway, using the momentum of the outside groove to overcome the lack of horsepower under the hood. Over the second half of the race, the battle at the front was a three way battle for the win as Smith had to hold off challenges from both JJ Courcy and Jerry Lobdell. The three spent most of the closing stages of the event side by side, with Smith just managing to keep his challengers at bay. Smith took the win by a narrow margin as Courcy just nosed out Lobdell for second. Jerry finished third with Pete Neff and Kevan Cook fourth and fifth respectively. Rich Green continued to dominate the Street Stock action as he raced to his seventh win of the season. Rich grabbed the lead on the seventh lap and led the remainder of the distance to pick up the win. Daryl Krebs finished a strong second ahead of Jake Fowlston. John Cooper Jr. and Scott Smith. Larry Rowley topped the Junkyard Dogs class for the fourth time in 2011. Rowley and Todd Koegel battled for the win with Rowley taking the win over Koegel. Blake Burnette finished third in his first 2011 start. Alvah Watson and Tyrone Scott rounded out the top five finishers. Dan Wood finished seventh and was the highest finishing Empire Sport Truck to earn the EST victory. Bobby Wagner’s hot streak continued in the Junkyard Pups feature as he won his fourth straight feature. Newcomer Grayson Albanese finished second with Don Sinn, Jimmy Neff, and Phil Burns completing the top five. Trevor Dudley came out on top of a battle with Eric Rowley to earn his third Young Pups feature win of the season. Rowley finished second with Timothy Vandermark third. Timothy Filkins and Isiah Forward were fourth and fifth. Next Saturday night will feature the second Bonus Night of the season for the IMCA Modified division. All of the IMCA Modifieds teams that were in competition on Saturday night will be racing for a $500 payoff. All of Skyline’s regular divisions will be in action as the Sportsman, Street Stocks, Junkyard Dogs, Empire Sport Trucks, Junkyard Pups and Young Pups will all be in action as well. All of the racing action gets underway at 6:30 PM. Log onto www.skylineracewayny.com for all of the latest news and information.
-Rich Sharpsteen collects $1,000 Street Stock victory The Skyline Raceway wrapped up their big two day Memorial Day weekend on Sunday afternoon as the IMCA World Products Empire State Series made its annual visit to Skyline. Track regular Kevan Cook defended his home turf as he raced to victory in the 25 lap feature event. Rich Sharpsteen scored a $1,000 payday as he drove to victory in the companion 50 lap Pure Stock special. Larry Rowley won his third feature of the season in the Junkyard Dogs feature and Bobby Wagner won his fourth consecutive Junkyard Pups feature. The IMCA Modifieds turned out in force with 33 entries for the Empire State Series event. After qualifying races determined the 24 car starting field, The IMCA Modifieds came to the green flag with Jerry Lobdell and Chris Sawyer pacing the field to the green flag. Lobdell jumped out to the early lead with Mike Smith driving past Sawyer to run second. Several early race caution flags kept the field bunched up. Smith drove to the lead on the second lap as he got a big run past Lobdell on a restart to take over the top spot. The battle was now on for the lead as the two Skyline regulars fought for the top spot. It soon became a four car battle at the front of the field as Kevan Cook and Keystone State star Eddie Sites also joined in the battle. As the race neared the halfway point, Smith suddenly slowed on the backstretch and pulled pitside, handing the lead over to Lobdell. Unfortunately for Jerry, his time as the race leader would last only four laps as he also developed mechanical issues that sent him pitside on the 17th circuit. Lobdell’s misfortune turned the top spot over to eventual winner Cook. The final third of the race saw Cook holding off a determined challenge by Sites as Eddie repeatedly looked to the low side of Cook, but Kevan was up to the challenge as he held off Sites all the way to the finish. For Kevan, it was his first feature win of 2011. Sites chased Cook all the way before settling for a runner-up finish. Mark Griffin charged from his 19th starting position to finish third with Brandon Carvey and Chris Fleming rounding out the top five finishing order. A full field of Street Stocks were also on hand to take part in a 50 lap feature with a $1,000 payday awaiting the winner. With the feature line-up set by a redraw among the top heat race finishers, invader Bob Buono drew the pole, flanked by Buck Mills, who took over the ride in the Bill Rampe #1J for the evening. Buono grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag with Kurt Decker moving into the runner-up position. The early stages of the event saw Buono setting the pace as fellow invader Chris Fisher advancing past Decker into the runner-up position. By the tenth circuit, Rich Green began to make his presence known as he had advanced to third from his tenth starting position. Green was the man on the move as he was able to drive past Fisher into the runner-up position and just two laps later Breen made a move to the outside of Buono to take over the top spot. Green has been unbeatable at Skyline thus far in 2011, as he has earned six wins in as many starts coming into Sunday night. Once out front, Green began to open up a bit of an advantage as eventual winner Gene Sharpsteen began to drive his way into contention, advancing to third by the time the race reached its halfway point with Green still leading over Buono, Sharpsteen, Mike Morris, and Brent Miller. Sharpsteen began to press the issue a bit as he worked past Buono to move into the second position behind Green. The entire complexion of the race changed in dramatic fashion on the 33rd lap as race leader Green saw his bid for a seventh consecutive feature come to an end as he spun between the first and second turn. The resulting tangle shuffled the top five considerably as both Morris and Miller became involved in the incident as well. Green’s misfortune turned the lead over to Sharpsteen, who would lead the final 17 laps to earn the victory, his first Skyline Raceway triumph of 2011, as well as the $1,000 top prize. Over the closing laps, the man on the move was John Cooper Jr. Cooper’s late charge carried him all the way to a runner-up finish. Cooper was closing quickly on Sharpsteen as the race wound down, but he ran out of laps before he could mount a challenge for the top spot. Buck Mills finished third ahead of Daryl Krebs and early race leader Bob Buono. The Junkyard Pups event for the day was the Gorge Scutt Memorial race, run in memory of George Scutt, who passed away suddenly this spring. The 20 lap event featured plenty of great racing at the head of the field. Invader Kenny Underwood drew the pole and grabbed the early lead, but he immediately found himself facing pressure from current point leader Phil Burns. As the battle raged at the head of the field, eventual winner Bobby Wagner was picking his way through the field to move into contention from his eleventh starting position. The second half of the race saw no less than five cars racing under a blanket as Underwood, Burns, Nick Greist, Bobby Edwards, and Wagner were all locked in a furious battle for the top positions. Wagner made his move in the closing laps, going to the top of the speedway to make his way to the front. Wagner did not get to the lead until the 18th circuit as he drove around both Underwood and Burns in one big move. Wagner led the final two laps to get the win. Burns passed Underwood on the final lap to finish second with Underwood third. Bobby Edwards and Nick Greist completed the top five. Larry Rowley won his third Junkyard Dogs feature win of the season. Invader George Brown led the majority of the race before a late race caution flag closed up the field. That restart would be the only break Rowley would need as he drove past Brown n the restart to take over the lead for good. Brown’s great race would come to an end early as he spun while driving hard to try to retake the top spot. Rowley led the remainder of the race to earn the victory over Buck MillsJr., Katie Smith, Grayson Albanese, and Kevin Giangarra. Next Saturday night’s racing card will feature the second Hunt’s Automotive Bonus Night of the season. All of the Sportsman teams that were in competition on Saturday night will be racing for a $1,000 payoff. All of Skyline’s regular divisions will be in action as the IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, Junkyard Dogs, Empire Sport Trucks, Junkyard Pups and Young Pups will all be in action as well. Mitch promptly went out and won the feature event aboard the Rothwell mount. On Saturday night, Rothwell returned to the seat of his familiar #4. Just as Gibbs had done the previous week, Rothwell drove the car to victory in the 25 lap Sportsman feature. Rich Green joined Stu Space and Ken Updyke as the only three drivers to ever open a racing season at Skyline with a six race wining streak, tying the record with his sixth straight Street Stock win. Mike Smith topped the IMCA Modified field for his second win of the season. Todd Koegel picked up win #4 in the Junkyard Dog feature with Dan Wood being declared the Empire Sport Truck winner as the highest finishing truck in the Dogs feature. Wood finished sixth overall. Bobby Wagner won his third straight Junkyard Pups feature with Eric Rowley winning his third Young Pups feature of 2011. Ken Hammond and Jon Carpenter paced the Sportsman field to the green flag with Hammond grabbing the top spot from Carpenter. Eventual winner Rothwell started sixth, but immediately made a big move to advance to third on the first lap. Several early caution flags for minor incidents kept the field tightly bunched over the early laps of the event. Rothwell was able to take advantage of the restarts to make his way to second and ultimately to the top spot as he blasted past Hammond for the lead on the fifth circuit. Behind Rothwell, three time feature winner already in 2011 Chris Stull was on the move as he drove past Hammond for second and set his sights on Rothwell. The second half of the feature event saw an entertaining battle at the head of the field as Kevin Jordan made his way into the battle for the lead, making for an exciting three car battle at the head of the field. Jordan was able to work past Stull and set his sights on Rothwell for the top spot. The two veteran drivers battled hard over the closing laps as Jordan pressured Rothwell hard, but the 20 plus year veteran Rothwell was up to the challenge as he held off Jordan’s repeated challenges. A last lap caution flag for a Marshall Balzer spin set up a one lap dash to the finish. Rothwell executed a perfect restart and was able to gain enough of an advantage to hold the lead to the checkered flag for his first win of 2011. Jordan came home with a seasons best runner-up finish with Chris Stull third. Former Skyline Raceway champion Jim LaRock finished fourth with Kenny Hammond fifth. Rich Green continued his early season win streak in the Street Stock division as he drove to his sixth consecutive feature win. Polesetter Jake Fowlston grabbled the lead at the start of the event and held the top spot for the early part of the race as Green made his way to the front of the field. Green was able to take control of the event as he worked past Fowlston on a lap five restart to take over the top spot. Though Green would lead the final 15 laps to earn the win, Fowlston did not make it easy as he kept the pressure on the entire distance. Green flashed under the checkered flag to score the victory with Fowlston’s runner-up finish his best result to date in 2011. Rich Talada finished third with Gene Sharpsteen and Brent Miller completing the top five finishing order. Mike Smith returned to victory lane for the second time in 2011 as he drove to victory in the 20 lap IMCA Modified feature. Bruce Sawyer led the initial two circuits before Smith worked past to take over the top spot. Mechanical problems would send Sawyer pitside near the halfway point, leaving Smith, Kevan Cook, and Chris Fleming locked in a three way battle for the top spot. Smith was able to remain at the point and take the victory. Behind him, the battle raged all the way to the finish as Fleming slipped past Cook on the final lap to finish secons with Cook third. JJ Courcy scored a fourth pace finish with second generation star Matt Roberts coming home fifth. Todd Koegel came out on top of a ferocious battle at the head of the field in the 15 lap Junkyard Dogs feature. He and Larry Rowley got involved in a tremendous battle for the top spot that featured plenty of close side by side racing and several incidents of contact between the two veteran drivers. Koegel was able to hold off Rowley to score the win, his fourth of the season. Buck Mills Jr. finished third in his first start of the season. Steve Rose finished fourth with newcomer Chuck Culbertson fifth. Sixth finishing Dan Wood was the Empire Sport Trucks winner, his fourth of the season. Bobby Warner took top honors in the Junkyard Pups feature to earn his third consecutive feature win. Wagner outdueled Bobby Edwards to pick up the win with Edwards finishing second. Ashley Jones recovered from a hard crash the previous week to finish third with Keith Potter finishing fourth in his first 2011 appearance. Current point leader Phil Burns finished fifth. Eric Rowley topped the Young Pups division, earning his third feature win. Twelve year old Timothy Vandermark, the division’s youngest driver, earned a solid runner-up finish with Trevor Dudley finishing third. Tim Filkins fiished fourth ahead of Isiah Forward. Next Saturday night’s racing card will feature the second Hunt’s Automotive Bonus Night of the season. All of the Sportsman teams that were in competition on Saturday night will be racing for a $1,000 payoff. May 21, 2011 May 14th, 2011 CHRIS STULL WINS SECOND CONSECUTIVE SKYLINE FEATURE - Mike Smith tops IMCA Modified mainChris Stull not only had to defeat the other competitors in Skyline Raceway’s talent laden Sportsman field, but also Mother Nature as well to win his second straight feature event. With a mist in the air, Skyline Raceway officials pushed the show along and managed to complete the entire racing card before the rains intensified. Mike Smith earned his second IMCA Modified feature win while Rich Green continued to dominate the Pure Stock division with his fourth win in as many starts. Todd Koegel returned to victory lane for the third time in the Junkyard Dogs ranks, with Dan Wood finishing fifth overall to be declared the Empire Sport Trucks winner. Bobby Wagner won his second Junkyard Pups win with Eric Rowley topping the Young Pups main. Randy Shantel and Jim Rothwell paced the Sportsman Modified field to the green flag to start the 25 lap feature event. Third starter Brad Alger made a quick move at the drop of the green flag to jump into the early lead. Eventual winner Chris Stull also made a big move at the start to advance from his sixth starting position. The race got off to a somewhat rocky start as a first lap tangle on the backstretch saw Randy Brokaw very nearly go over when he, Jim Rothwell, Ken Hammond, and Ray Taylor all tangled. Racing resumed with Alger leading with Stull applying heavy pressure for the top spot. Stull was able to slip past Alger for the lead on the fourth circuit. With Stull now leading the event, a new challenger was driving his way into contention. Mitch Gibbs, wheeling the O’Hara Racing #BA1 for the second week, slipped past Alger just prior to the halfway point and set off in pursuit of Stull. As the race entered its closing stages, Gibbs had closed the gap on Stull and was looking underneath Stull in every corner. Gibbs’ late race charge was hampered by an overheating condition that saw the car trailing smoke as Mitch tried to challenge for the win. Despite heavy pressure from Gibbs, Stull never wavered from his groove and drove on to score the victory by a narrow margin over Gibbs. Alger finished a strong third with Kevin Jordan and Randy Shantel completing the top five. Rich McNeal jumped out to the early lead from his second starting position as the IMCA Modified feature came to the green flag. Eventual winner Mike Smith started third and dogged McNeal for the first three laps before making what would be the winning pass on the fourth circuit. Smith led the remainder of the event to pick up his second win of 2011. McNeal drove a strong race to finish second, his best finish of the season as he and teammate Smith completed a sweep of the top two positions for the Harris Race Cars team. Chris Fleming came out on top of a duel for third as he got the spot over Kevan Cook. Bump Scutt overcame an early race spin to finish fifth. Rich Green kept his perfect record intact as he won his fourth straight Pure Stock feature. He did so in dramatic fashion, making the winning pass exiting the fourth turn on the final lap to edge Brenton Miller by about a foot at the checkered flag. Miller took advantage of a front row starting position to grab the lead at the start. By halfway, Green had moved to second and was putting heavy pressure on Miller for the top spot. The two put on a show for the Skyline fans as Green repeatedly was able to pull alongside Miller, but each time Miller was able to keep Green at bay. Exiting the final turn, Green finally got the bite he was looking for on the low side and was able to just beat Miller to the line in a drag race down the front stretch to the flag. Miller finished second and was the first to victory lane to congratulate Green. Gene Sharpsteen finished third with Scott Smith and Darryl Krebs completing the top five. In Junkyard Dog action, Todd Koegel came out on top of a racelong duel with Larry Rowley to earn his third win of the season. Rowley pressured Koegel all the way, but could not find a way past and settled for a strong runner-up finish. Dan Freelove finished third with Shawn Rose fourth. Dan Wood finished fifth to earn the Empire Sport Truck victory. Bobby Wagner dominated the Junkyard Pups feature, leading all 15 laps to pick up his second win of the season. Bobby Edwards finished second trailed by Jimmy Neff, Chris Carman, and Phil Burns. Eric Rowley scored his second Young Pups feature win of the season. Eric passed early leader Trevor Dudley on the sixth lap then led the final four circuits to pick up the win over Dudley. Dylan Thompson and Tim Vandermark finished third and fourth. This Saturday night will find the Pure Stocks taking center stage with their first $500 to win feature events of the season. All of Skyline’s regular divisions will be in action with racing getting underway at 6:30 PM. Log onto www.skylineracewayny.com for all of the latest news and information.

Chris Fleming won his first IMCA Modified feature of the season while Rich Green continued his winning streak in the Pure Stock ranks, winning his third feature in as many starts. Newcomer Andy Brigham topped the Junkyard Pups feature with Dylan Thompson wining his first Young Pups feature of the season. With $1,000 on the line for the feature winner, Randy Shantel and Jon Carpenter paced the field to the green flag with Shantel grabbing the early lead. Eventual winner Stull started sixth, but made a big move on the initial start to advance to second and immediately went to work on Shantel for the top spot. It took Stull only one additional lap to move around Shantel to take over the lead which he would never relinquish. Shantel’s race would end on the sixth lap as mechanical problems sent him pitside. With Stull comfortably out front, Ken Hammond and Randy Brokaw locked in a tight battle for the runner-up position. Just past the halfway point, Brokaw was able to slip past Hammond for the runner-up position. Over the closing laps, Brokaw was not able to close on Stull, who maintained his lead all the way to the finish to earn the victory. Brokaw finished second with Jon Carpenter advancing to third over the final laps. Brad Alger and Ken Hammond completed the top five finishing order. JJ Courcy took advantage of a front row starting position to grab the lead at the start of the 20 lap IMCA Modified feature. The early stages of the event featured a battle for the top spot between Courcy and Jerry Lobdell as the two veterans battled often side by side for the top spot. Eventual winner Chris Fleming was on the move early, advancing into the top five from his 13th starting position in only six laps. By the time the race had reached its halfway point, it was a three car battle for the top spot as Fleming joined in the action at the head of the field. The three veterans of IMCA Modified action at Skyline battled hard for the top spot with Fleming first slipping past Lobdell for second before finally wresting the lead away from Courcy on lap 16 following a side by side battle that lasted several laps. Fleming was able to hold off a determined charge by Courcy over the final alps to score the win over Courcy. Mike Wilmont made a late race charge to finish third in his first ever Skyline Raceway start. Jerry Lobdell and Matt Roberts finished fourth and fifth respectively. Rich Green kept his perfect record intact in Pure Stock action as he drove to his third win in as many starts in 2011. Darryl Krebs finished third with Gene Sharpsteen overcoming an early race spin to race back to finish fourth. Bill Rampe completed the top five finishing order. Larry Rowley earned his first trip to victory lane of the season in Junkyard Dog action with a late race pass of Dan Freelove. Freelove led the majority of the race before surrendering the top spot to Rowley with just two laps remaining. Freelove held on to finish second while Tyrone Scott’s third place run was his best result of the season to date. Adam Haddow finished fourth to earn the Empire Sport Truck win in only his second ever start. Newcomer Casey Barber rounded out the top five finishers. With his regular Saturday night track rained out, Andy Brigham made the rip north to Skyline from his Pennsylvania home. The long tow was worth the effort, however, as Brigham drove to victory in the 15 lap Junkyard Pups feature. Brigham’s win came in exciting style as he and Bobby Edwards fought side by side for the top spot for the majority of the event. Brigham was finally able to complete the winning pass with just two laps remaining in the event to take the lead for good and earn his first Skyline Raceway checkered flag. Edwards finished second with Phil Burns third. Bobby Wagner finished fourth ahead of newcomer Chris Conrad. Dylan Thompson earned his first Young Pups feature win of the season. Thompson inherited the lead on the fourth lap when race leader Trevor Dudley retired from the event with mechanical issues. Thompson then held off Timothy Vandermark to pick up the win. was the Empire Sport Truck feature winner. The IMCA Modified division featured the tightest race of the night. Eventual winner Jerry Lobdell grabbed the lead at the start of the feature event as behind him JJ Courcy made a big move from his fifth starting position to move up to second. The early stages of the event saw Lobdell choosing to run the outside groove with Courcy and Kevan Cook just behind. As the race neared the halfway point, Courcy began to fall off the pace a bit with Cook slipping past for second. Courcy would stop on the track with a flat left rear tire to bring out the caution flag on the twelfth circuit. This bunched the field and set up what would prove to be an entertaining final eight lap run to the checkered flag. Lobdell continued to work the high side with Cook looking to the inside in every turn. Time after time, Cook was able to drive in hard on the bottom entering the turn to pull alongside Lobdell, but each time Lobdell was able to get off the top with enough momentum to hold onto the lead. The two veteran drivers battled this way all the way to the finish with Lobdell just managing to hold off a final challenge coming off the fourth turn to the checkered. Cook finished second. Behind them, Chris Fleming and Matt Roberts were also locked in a tight battle for third with Fleming taking that spot from Roberts on the final lap. Roberts finished fourth with Mark Griffin fifth in his first start of the season. For the second consecutive week, Rich Green drove to victory in the 20 lap Pure Stock feature. Veteran Gene Sharpsteen grabbed the early lead at the drop of the green flag. April 23rd, 2011 RANDY BROKAW OPENS SKYLINE RACEWAY SEASON WITH A VICTORY -Mike Smith tops IMCA Modified action Despite intermittent showers throughout the day and the threat of more to come, the Skyline Raceway chose to go ahead with their 2011 season opener on Saturday night. The decision proved to be the right one as the weather held off and the entire racing program was run off without any precipitation during the program. Randy Brokaw picked up the victory in the Hunt’s Auto Sportsman division while Mike Smith came out on top of IMCA Modified action. Rich Green came out on top of a highly competitive Pure Stock feature. Todd Koegel started off the Junkyard Dog season with a feature win while Dan Wood finished fourth overall in the feature to be declared the first ever Empire Sport Truck winner at Skyline. Phil Burns topped the Junkyard Pups class and Trevor Dudley was the Young Pups winner. With feature line-ups set by the luck of the draw, Ken Hammond and Randy Brokaw paced the Sportsman field to the green flag for the Hunt’s Auto Service 25 lap feature. The first attempt to start the race was short circuited as Billy Shantel came to a stop in the second turn. That first lap stoppage would be the only caution flag of the race as the Sportsman teams put on a show of extended green flag racing for the Skyline fans. On the restart, Brokaw was able to utilize the high groove of the speedway to his advantage as he was able to grab the top spot from Hammond on the restart. While Brokaw led the event in his as of yet unlettered #17, behind him the battle was on for the second position as the Hunt’s Auto teammates of Hammond and Eddie White locked in a furious battle for the runner-up position. As the race crossed the halfway point, Brokaw enjoyed a comfortable lead, but was experiencing some anxious moments as smoke began to show behind his machine. The smoke did not hinder the performance of the machine as Brokaw was able to maintain his advantage. The cause of the smoke was later determined to be a faulty valve cover gasket which caused plenty of smoke but did not slow the car. Brokaw was able to maintain is advantage despite the smoke, crossing under the checkered flag to pick up the first checkered flag of the season. “We were not planning on racing tonight.”, stated Brokaw in victory lane. “It was a last minute decision to come”. Behind Brokaw, White was finally able to slip past Hammond with just two laps remaining to take the runner-up position with White finishing third. Jim Rothwell raced among the leaders all night to finish fourth with Ryan Jordan completing the top five. In IMCA Modified action, Gary Roberts and Josh VanTassell took the green flag from the front row with Roberts grabbing the top spot. While Roberts led the opening laps, Mike Smith was the man on the move. Utilizing the high side of the speedway, Smith made a hard charge from his sixth stating position to move into a challenging position behind Roberts in only three laps. It took him only one more lap to drive around the outside of Roberts to assume the top spot. As the race crossed the halfway point, VanTassell was able to slip past Roberts into the runner-up position. The only caution flag of the race flew on the 13th lap as Jerry Lobdell came to a stop, bunching up the field for a final sprint to the checkered. Smith continued to dominate the event, leading the rest of the way to score the win over VanTassell. Chris Fleming made a late high side charge to take third with Roberts finishing fourth. Kevan Cook completed the top five finishing order. In Pure Stock action, Rich Green capitalized on a pole starting position to lead all 20 laps of the feature event. Though he was scored as the leader of all 20 laps, it was far fro an easy victory for Green as he had to fight off a determined challenge from Bill Rampe. The two veterans put on a display of hard-nosed racing for the Skyline fans, running several laps side by side, complete with some wheel banging action as each driver looked for the slightest edge. Green came out with the opening night victory with Rampe settling for a strong runner-up finish. Kevin Boynton finished third ahead of Brandon Miller and John Cooper Jr. The 20 lap Junkyard Dogs feature saw Todd Koegel dominate the 20 lap feature to earn the victory. Koegel outdistanced Larry Rowley to pick up the feature win, leading all 20 laps. Dan Freelove finished third. Dan Wood drove his Empire Sport Truck to a fourth place overall finish to earn the first Empire Sport Truck win. Jamie Thrasher completed the top five. The 15 lap Junkyard Pups feature fell to Phil Burns. Burns inherited the top spot just two laps from the finish when race leader Nick Griest went up in smoke, taking him out of the event. Burns led the final to laps to score the victory. Ashley Jones ran among the leaders the entire distance to finish second, just holding off a hard charging Jimmy Neff, who finished third. Gary Kinne and Shawn Casey completed the top five. Trevor Dudley won the Young Pups feature, passing Eric Rowley in the middle stages of the event then holding off Rowley to earn the win. Rowley finished second ahead of Timothy Vandermark and Dylan Thompson. Racing continues this Saturday night with another full card of racing
